so today i came for advice n training my half moon conure ... im a 1st time parrot owner ... my conure is bearly being okay with getting out the cage ... she is getting louder:52: but shes adorable i need a way to figure out how to trust the step up command any ideas i try and giver her treats by hand but she pecks at my fingers rather then the treat .. she is still scared i believe but any pointers will help ...

also my main reason im coming here is in regrades to my half moons poop :( so i switch her up from her diet twice 1st was the seeds the pet store i get her from had her on a seed diet and i had switched her over to zupreem pellets and nutri berries conure food .. and she enjoyed it till i heard zupreem wasent so good for the bird ... around that time her poop was smelling a bit odd like granola bar but i figured that was the nutri berrys i called my avian vet and i had also got her results on her gran stain and culture and everything came back normal in other words she was a healthy birdy i hope .... but the doc said it was normal it was the switch in food and the medication i was giving her at the time also she had got a shot pryer to that for any bacteria in her to have pooped out .... and well now since i heard how zupreem wasent to good for her i switched her over just last week to harrison pellets .. she is only 5 months so i was told by the pet owner and it was really easy to get her on harrison but the smell came back and i have pics of her poop to see if everything is fine some poops are just dried up already but just to be safe ill post up all pics possible im just worried on the granola bar smell again and the color in poop its a light greenish poop with white well id rather post a pic

one more thing the picture with the poop that looks dark is just dry its usually like the pic of the poop thats more wet

I might be wrong but those poops look fine to me. Honestly, if you've taken you bird to a good avian vet and he's done the tests that come up clear then that should be a good sign too. Is your bird showing any other signs of illness?

Hello and welcome! Let me address your concerns here.

1. As mentioned above, a checkup with your Avian vet is always recommended when acquiring a new parrot, to eliminate health problems and make sure your bird is in tip-top shape :) When switching the diet there may be some changes in their poop, but a vet will be able to tell you if you should be concerned about it.

2. That's good you got your conure on pellets, as a seed diet is not sufficientas sole nutrition for birds. My cockatiels enjoy the Zupreem Fruit pellets. I also feed them a sunflower-seed-less seed mix (Volkmans), Tropimix pellet and seed mix, and chop (fresh fruits, veggies, legumes, grains chopped up). I made a thread on how to do it here. It's easy and quite simple, and many parrots big and small enjoy fresh fruits an veggies :)

3. As for training, you want to work with building your turst bond with your new conure. Open the cage and allow her to com out on her own. Reward her with a treat. Get her used to your presence by sitting near her cage while she is in it. As she becomes more comofortable with you near her, teach her the 'step-up' command ( a must for all parrots) and begin working with bite-pressure training, target training and recall.

Hope that helps! I love conures :)

I'm not a poop expert  but greenish and white mixed in looks normal to me also.

1. Poop looks good to me. Poop with a foul smell would signal a problem.

2. FWIW zupreem is not a bad food; for you it seems to have been a good transition food.

3. itzjbean gave good advice on trust/training.

4. If she's still threatening your fingers when you give treats, you can drop them in a bowl, or bring the treat just close enough that she can reach the treat but not your fingers.
