Parrots
I have a number of plum head mutations now..
I have opaline, Cinnamon, gg, dilute, lutino and normal
3 Pair cockatiel (pieds)
Pair blossom headed (look Very similar to plum head but not
I had my plum heads for 2 years now.. I'm getting very interested in getting some mutation/lutino... Any advice on what I need to do?
And would like to see photo of your plum head?
Many thanks Ross

Be sure to research if it is safe to breed lutino to lutino in that specific species, or if it would be safer to breed a lutino gen to a split lutino male.

In some species, like cockatiels, breeding lutino to lutino causes major health issues such as blindness, baldness, short body cavity (squished organs) and general poor health in the offspring.

In order to get lutino, you need at least one bird to carry the mutation. If the father carries it, that's the easiest! He could throw lutino offspring (whether he's visual or split). If the mother carries the mutation, then you have to wait for her male offspring to pair up and breed before you'll get visual lutino offspring.

Two dilutes that carry no other mutations will always throw dilutes.

It just kind of depends on what your goal is and it helps to understand how genetics works.
