Hello!
Today I adopted a male red-sided ekkie. He's around 6½ months old, he hatched January 12th.
He's been on my arm and eaten from a bowl I held, he's also lunged at me a couple times, but I'm not surprised, it's been a stressful day for him!
I left him alone after that so he could familiarise himself with the surroundings a little bit better.

I am noticing toe tapping, he had a lot of sunflower seeds in his previous cage. The guy said he usually eats breakfast with them and he gives him some cheese and stuff when they have breakfast ... I prepared some chop for him before picking him up though, he seems to really enjoy bell peppers!

His name is Floof, possibly just temporary, we'll see what happens. For now it's Floof.
He was preening himself earlier and 3 floof balls fell, 2 of which stuck to his face.

Mr. Floofy Flooferson.

Congrats..He does look like he could use some baths. That is young for toe tapping so really work quickly getting him over to a better diet.:)

Gorgeous ekkie there Sebastian! Congratulations on your beautiful little boy and welcome to the world of ekkie owners ;)

Howdy, Mr. Floofy Flooferson!!!!

Well helllllooooo there Mr. Floofy Flooferson! What a handsome lad!! :D You've got to be absolutely over the moon, Sebastian! Great looking RS!! :smile015:

Mr. Floofy Flooferson? Hahaha! Nice.

Congratulations, Sebastian! And welcome to the ekkie fold.

Laura is right. 6.5 months is quite young for a toe-tapping issue, so you'll want to transition him to the proper foods right quick. (Are we sure he's only 6.5 months, though? Doesn't look like there's even a trace of black left in his beak. Though some do lose the juvenile coloring faster than others.)

Now, I do hope you realize that you can't just post one pic and feel that you've done your due diligence. Nope. We're going to need quite a few more, buddy.

Just saying. Lol!

Laura: I figured it's pretty early...
I've got veggies prepared, went and bought some nuts too so hopefully this will go away soon!

Melissa: thank you! Pretty exciting ;)

Wendy: yeah! I have so many emotions going through my body right now, but we'll both settle in time :)

Stephen: he does have some black on his beak, I guess you can't see it in the picture. It's not much at all.
Well he seemed to really like the chop I made earlier, so that's good :)
I did get some papers he got from the breeder stating that his hatch date was 12th of January 2015, I don't think the breeder would lie, but you never know though.

Oh really? You want MORE pics? Gosh, you people are so demanding!!

Handsome guy :) I tell you these names they name birds !! [I have a Dingo and a Boomer ] Uggh

I LOVE Floofy Flooferson! Sounds like a ridiculous nick name I would come up with (I have a cat named Ozzy that I prefer to call Oswald Von Fozzington).

He is gorgeous! Many congrats! And please, more pictures! Love to see everyone's babies!!

Congratulations on your new baby - he is gorgeous.

Floofy Flooferson is an excellent name. I think it will be extra fun if/when you take him to the vet and it is his turn to be seen they call out "Floofy Flooferson"! Ha!

(I hope that makes sense - not sure if everyone's vet actually calls the name of the pet when it is his turn to be seen).

Congratulations, Sebastian! What a handsome boy you have there! You must be delighted with your new companion.

Welcome to the forum Mr. Floofy Flooferson!

Sebastian, more glamour shots please! This is no time to be selfish.

Thanks guys! Today is a new day, so you'll be getting some pics later this afternoon ;)
Just having my coffee now before I prepare his breakfast, there's just something about that, making food for a bird in the morning. I like it!

LOL greatblue! I can totally see that happening, then he walks out the carrier and up to the doc and goes 'yes!'

He's one sleepy boy! Can't blame him though, new home and everything.
I gave him a little food and water, he was pretty thirsty.

Congratulations Sebastian!! Mr. Floofy sure is a cutie! I'm sure you'll do well with him :). I'm happy for you.

Thanks Julie! I sure appreciate it. I'm a bit nervous, but I'm sure it'll work out :) he's been looking out the window from the curtain rod, moved about on it, so set up the camera on the tripod and he decided to sleep instead... [emoji42]

So since I know you've considered several species, what was it that made you decide on an Ekkie? How did you happen to find Floofy?

Well the Jardines that I wanted, the guy I was talking to just stopped replying, I considered an ekkie, RLA or a CAG before I found the Jardines.
Then I didn't think I could take on an ekkie, then a while later, started reading some more and found it wasn't QUITE as complicated as I'd made it up to be, I knew there was an ad out too so I contacted the guy and he called me a couple hours later, then I went to check him out the next day, which would be yesterday, and now here we are! :)
He's finally starting to wake up!

EDIT: I meant I thought the diet was really complicated.
But i don't know I kinda like what I've read and watched, not overly energetic, I like a bird that can be a bit independent too, easier to get things done around here that way lol
They just seem really sweet :) the beak is a little intimidating I have to admit, he's felt my finger a few times today, taken food from me as well. Not a peep yet though.
