So happy right now groot has eaten food out my hand for the first time :) didn't try biting me or anything what is the next step to tame him.

I'm certainly no expert but he looks young to me. I'd be inclined to trust the breeder unless you have some solid reason to believe they are lying. What cnyguy wrote seems spot on so far in my sort quaker experience. Hang out near Groot (cute name by the way!) and let him develop his sense of security in your presence. Work on closeness as the bird permits. I expect it won't take long for Groot to be happy to be all over you.

My little Nacho bird was a bit different starting out. He just stayed pretty much on one perch for the first several days and never made a peep. Over the course of 2-3 weeks he warmed up to me and now he's quite a cuddly bird and he seems fairly content to let me handle him pretty much any way I choose. Lately my son has become more interested in making friends with Nacho, and just by spending time in the same room he has made good progress in only about a week so far.

Also I haven't been able to find a real treat that he cares about yet! I offer all kinds of stuff and he takes it, but seems as content to munch on his pellets as anything else. I even put millet clusters in his food dish sometimes but he won't touch the stuff, lol. He likes his fresh veggies if I cut them up tiny, like rice grain size, but if give him the veggies and pellets at the same time he's more likely to go for the pellets. Silly bird!

I haven't trained him much yet, but he seems to respond well to attention. We've had some biting issues and he has learned pretty well that a little nip on dad gets a stern NO and trip to the coffee table where there is nothing to bite or play with. He's pretty clipped so he tends to stay where I put him. After a couple minutes of timeout though I'll have him back on me playing like best buddies again.

Congrats on your cute bird! Hope he grows into as much of a sweetheart as mine has <3

Awww nacho sounds fun to be with
Groot loves his apple not to keen on millet either lol but found out this morning he loves pumpkin seeds so I have taken them all away from him so if he wants some he has to come to me that's how I managed to get him to eat out my hand. I have thought about getting his wings clipped as I've heard they are very clever and don't want to risk him escaping and flying out a window but on the other hand I'm thinking he loves flying around so I don't want him missing that.
I heard it's easier to train your parrot out of their cage but when groot comes out he won't come to me so how do I train him.
My partner is getting rather annoyed at how loud he is which I think is funny because I get to have tv to myself as he won't sit downstairs until it's birdy go night night lol

I'll have to get some pumpkin seeds for Nacho, sounds like they may be a favorite among quakers. This guy seems to like them quite well too!

The wing clipping choice is so tough too. My cockatiel really enjoyed zooming around the apartment and he was good at it. It was a joy to see him fly except on the day he got out of the apartment. That was the last time I ever saw him :( I'm sure I can do better now, and keep my place on lockdown like a military installation for the sake of my bird, but then again Nacho is used to being clipped by now. So maybe it's best to just keep him clipped? I don't know if there's a "right answer" for that, but I guess we have a few months before his first molt so there's still time to decide...
