Parrots
Pink and grey Galah
I have my first bird, a pink and grey Galah he is a male about one year old and his name is Ronni or ron for short.
i am starting to think that my bird is starting to dislike me and we might be loosing our bond. I have gotern angry at him for silly reasions but ive never hurt him (physically). When ever I go to the cage where he normaly sits he moves to the right as far as he can untill his foot is nearly hanging over the edge. I get him out of the cage he bites a little bit. (he doesnt have a mirrior in the cage). I try and talk, I try and pat hit or give him scratches just under his chin where he addors it but he to wresslis and he trys and grab hold of my finger with his feet once he has done that he'll than bite. I am new to a parot, I am a bit upset about what is happening. Also Ronni seems to like my dad.
This morning after I brag him out of the cage for a good half an hour, than I try to put him bake but heres where is realy hurts, as I put him away normaly than he turns around and runs back up my arm towards my sholder i didnt want him up there because he hates "ears" hell bit them so i do the command trick under the belly so he can hope off my arm and onto my thinger. some how he got his claws stuck in my sleave and he was constanly biting my hands because i was stoping him frome attacking my face. Then he falls than I catch him and put him away :31:. he is ok i leave him be for a minute to chill i come back with apple and I cheer him on silly with the apples to see if he is ok. All i want is a happy bond where i can do stuff like talk and hell talk back with out a fuss or i can take him around the house easy stuff like that what every one ealse does with their commpanen. :( Any tip, tricks or cheat codes (just jokes) p.s. I move the toys around pluss he has about 3 levels to climb around.
PLEASE HELP ME OUT!
I would love to read your comments and fead back

Please read the above links. It seems you need a few good lessions in parrot behavior & what you need to do to gain your parrots trust. I am afraid your loosing that at the moment.

Once you read through the links you will better understand some of the advice our knowledgable members can help you with.

Right now you're destroying trust with your parrot. Yelling or showing any aggression towards a parrot is a surefire way to destroy any chance of a bond. Respect his boundaries. If he doesn't want to come out of his cage, don't make him. If you need him to step up (to put him back in his cage or move him) offer him his favorite treat, but tell him he has to step up first. Make it something he chooses to do, not something he's forced to do.

And it wouldn't hurt to start from the beginning. Read the Companion Parrot link Pedro linked above. Read everything on that site, actually. You want to build trust, that's what that bond is, but you can only move as fast as the bird wants to and when you slip up that bond is damaged, so it's important to carefully consider the consequences of your behavior in regards to building trust with your new buddy.

Try to think of it from the bird's point of view - You've got this large, intimidating predator in front of you: Would you rather have it offer you something delicious to eat if you climbed on its hands or chase you around with its hands while angrily yelling in a language you don't understand?

And he may just like your dad best of all. Parrots have individual preferences just like we do. We don't like everyone we meet and neither do parrots. But if you want to foster a stronger bond between you and Ron then behave always with patience and kindness. Working on learning tricks can go a long way towards fostering a bond, too. Youtube has several bird training videos that show you how to train your parrot to do simple tricks. Most parrots love to learn new things, and it helps build communication skills at the same time.

Please don't get angry with your bird for any reason. They are intelligent and emotionally sensitive animals. Parrots must be allowed to be parrots. Sit near his cage and talk and sing to him. Do some coy flirting. Continue offering him treats. Play silly parrot games like sticking out your tongue at each other. Play peek a boo, by hiding under a blanket or behind the couch.

I agree with Roxynoodle, never get angry with your Bird , sometimes its hard, but walk away rather than shout. They have their mood swings as we do. Clicker training works very well with Galahs :D Give it a try. Good luck :D

I agree with all of the above. I think you should also rethink your expectations. They aren't trained circus animals that you can expect to perform for you. It takes months to build the bond that will make him your companion. You have to read his mood & perform to his needs. They are intelligent & loving creatures that have wants & needs of their own. Mr. Precious, my OWA, is my best friend & goes all over the house with me, but if he's not in the mood for fun & games I accept that & go about my business. Sometimes he just wants to sit on top of his cage & watch. I know when he's cranky or when he needs a nap or if he's feeling silly & wants to play.

How much out of the cage time does he have? Mine is only in the cage if I'm leaving the house, otherwise his door is open so he can get to his playstand, etc.

Right now mine all need one on one time. But, they haven't been together long enough for me to know yet if it's ok for them to all be out together. Merlin just came here last night. Pete immediately fell in love with her so I bet they will be able to be together soon. Pete has only been here though 2 months himself. I am in the process of re-establishing a new flock after my other conure died. But, I do still need to be cautious with the little Nanday. She is very bossy and thinks she is a big bird. But, I need to make sure the bigger birds don't hurt her.

There are certain things parrots do that may be annoying to some people, but it is their nature. You must expect them to vocalize (sometimes very loudly), to chew and to throw food. I also never try to force them to interact. When they want to interact, they let me know, and then they get all the attention they want.

You need to show what you deslike and like him doing but newer loose temper. It happens me that I loose temper but know that it will not benefit oure relation. But in my case I have a really tolerant bird and he know that I am not a perfect bird keeper lol. Just go slowly forward and do you best, read so you understand what is right and wrong and notice every time your are doing wrong. That way you will adjust and get closer to be "perfekt". Goog luck!

I truly believe that birds feel your energy. I know it sounds corny but everyone has a particular quality surrounding them, an aura. Mi Amigo sees this with anyone who comes into his space. If you are negative, hostile, aggressive, in any way...he feels it, even if you're not showing it at that time, he knows...

I have a friend who seems to seethe hostility toward my birds. She is the only person my Nanday has ever downright disliked. She doesn't say or do anything, but it's like you can feel it coming out of her.
