I'll be picking up two unwanted Parakeets Thursday evening. My partner wanted to give our existing keets buddies to play with. So I saw these on craigslist so I told her I would take them. Gotta clean out the old cage for the new arrivals since they can't go in the aviary yet....I'm kinda excited!!!! :)

Ooh yay!! Post pictures when you get them cuz I'd love to see! (I'm new to this thread and haven't seen many pictures yet . In the other thread I'm a part of, we LOVE posting pictures :D)

I know... I uploaded all pics onto my facebook. I got a new computer. No pics on the new one yet....I went from a pc to a mac. Big difference! Still learning on how to use it...

I post pictures by putting them on Photobucket. It's free, and very simple! You just make an account, click on the upload button, select the pictures you want to upload, and they automatically give you 4 different tags for wherever you want to post the picture! Just click on the bottom tag (the image tag) and it will copy the tag as soon as you click on it, and then Ctrl V over here :). I was always hesitant to make a Photobucket and I thought it would be so much of a hassle, but it's SO easy and in the other forum, I'm known to make threads with 30-50 pictures at once LOL! I like having photoshoots for my birds :p.

Tuh! Look at this!

Men and their excuses....tut tut tut.....

Us women will start nagging you know.......

lol!

On a serious note, great that you are able to offer them a lovely home! Can't wait to EVENTUALLY see pics ;)

Here they are, Cindy Lou & Levi...

LOL VON! :D Hahahahahah!

Mike those are beautiful budgies! Are you sure they're both hens though? Looks like the cobalt dominant pied is a male. But maybe it's a female not in breeding condition :p. Closeups would help, if you were interested that is :).

EDIT: I just realized, Levi might be a boy's name..? :p Whoops!

Yes Levi is a Boy's name. I used to breed Parakeets so I'm able to sex them pretty good. My other two Parakeets are both boys so Cindy Lou is the only girl and she is in full breeding condition because if you see her cere, she's ready... I'm not ready so I rather not let them have babies....lol

My sister has a Mac and I have nooo clue how to use it! I sit there and just stare... haha. You should post pictures of your aviary so we can see your set up & all. :)

Oh wow! They're so cute!

I was about to ask if it's a girl and a boy or an older female with a younger female. It's hard to see the other's nose good enough! It looks as if it's mostly white like that...

Oh cool! I think breeding birds is so cool, with all the surprises you get from different mutations :D. But there is quite an overpopulation lol . But I don't breed. My parents won't let me :p.

I got all kinds of colors at one point. Its kinda neat to find the color of the babies they give you. The new babies are absolutely adorable!!!! We're leaving them alone to let them adjust. :)

I agree, letting them breed is really fun but man it's still a lot of work! I really liked my experience. I had no idea the two I had would give me such nice colors. I sorta expected them all to be like their mom and dad.

The two budgies I mated were a regular male and a blue and white female... She laid 8 eggs. 7 were fertile (the last two died a couple days after being hatched. Too much competition and they were late 1 day!) Of the surviving bunch... the first two are male regulars... The next two were yellow females (I don't know mutations names...), and the last is a pale blue and white male.

(Also liked that she never tried laying at the bottom of the cage. It was "Gimme a nest or you get nothing.")

Was it the only pair you had? Sometimes they wont breed period without others being around since they are colony breeders. I handfed my babies so all the babies that hatch had equal survival rate. No one had to fight for food. It drive me nuts when they start flying. I have birds all over me begging for food...lol

Yep, they were the only pair I had. There were other males at times (Godzilla and Blue, AKA #1 and #5) but never any other female.

I decided not to handfeed because Bud was doing a great job at it and Bud didn't object to me handling the babies daily (A couple times she even came and fed them while I was handling them. She was a great mama. :D). At the end the babies were attached to humans anyway.

I put the nest back in a couple years later and produced me another 5 eggs but they all died in the eggs. Then a few months later I had to have her put down for sickness. Didn't get another female budgie since.
