UGH! one thing after another :(

Remember how cold you feel getting out of a steam room or shower and remember that she will likely feel colder- if you can amp up the temp in the house and make the transition more gradual before leaving the bathroom, I'd suggest it.

you are very smart . When I was doing tge steam room with Penny, I noticed, and Penny would get a shiver. I have the radiant heat panel I will have on her. And yes will turn up tge heat too. With Penny I also sat in the room till it cooled off some.

Edit: just talked to my vet I've know her 20 years so also a freind. She definitely wants her to continue with azithromyacin, as feels we are close. But mix in syringe with yogurt and give that way.
Feels the sinus swelling is from the aspiration last week , yes start steam room treatment, 50/50 on sinus flushing, but as we talked agreed to me doing this.
Reassurance that we will get there.
Oh almost forgot ! She has had great luck with mixing medicine in a tiny amount of marshmallow fluff, like you make rice crispy treat with! Says meds stay in it and they lick it all up!

Great catch noticing sinus swelling. Hopefully the flush will help with potential infection.

Never considered marshmallow fluff, so sticky and probably overcomes medicine taste!

I put meds in yogurt, she still violently vomited them up. I feel most of tge problems with her not getting well and gaining weight is she never gets full dose of meds...

In a hour the vet wants me to try again this time putting meds in bread.

Her weight held at 67g

Here is cute Cloudy seeing what I'm up too

Aw, Ta-dah's expression when she saw the strawberries! I bet Cloudy knows that he is so cute with this look. Glad to her that Ta-dah took the meds. Sending her healing thoughts.

Seems a great challenge with Tah-da is giving consistently full dosages of meds - and having it stay down. Hope bread does the trick!

Excuse my ignorance of avian medicine, but past human medical learning begs to question if Ta-dah be vomiting the meds because she is allergic to the meds or because she has a digestive system ulceration/irritation ???? If the vomiting is less with yoghurt or bread it is because in humans both assist with such irritations of the digestive system?? PS our CAV does not recommend strawberries due to their propensity for mould/mold!

Ellie777Australia,
I agree, i'm concerned about those things, and discussed them with my vet. So thank you, I definitely echo your thoughts.

I've been giving the neds by themselves directly in mouth. But am now to put them in stuff, to help with taste and upset.

I want to switch meds. But then she would have to take 45 days of doxycycline ...and I would be having yeast fungal issues probably too...

Verse just getting her through 3 more treatment of the azithromyacin, as its every other day.

I can second guess to the moon, and I do! Lol
But it all comes back to I trust my vet whom I've known 20 years...I don't think anyone else could have saved Penny! So I voiced and discussing all my concerns , and listened to what she had to say.

She wants meds with foods. Just like some people have to take meds with food or they vomit. So we are doing that, but if she keeps vomiting meds , may be forced to change.

I will watch the strawberries, thank you for sharing. Infill give a rinse with vinegar and water. She loves them soo much..

Ta-dah, up 1 gram to 68 Today ( has always been 74, her lowest during this sickness was 65),

Penny oops is 105 today! ( had been 97-100, but I think had a chronic infection, as her turn around after treatment had her stronger than ever before, so 105 could be her target, she isn't fat, keel still a little bony) but she is sn older girl , never flew before me might have under development of pectoral muscle..

Pikachu is 110!!! ( he ( or she) is my largest bird, his weights 108-110, with one weight at 115), he feels perfect. But I'm only good at feeling extra thin or extra fat keels, not perfect at keel feeling art

Orbit is 92.... prefer him at 94. ( blue quaker are smaller than other quakers, and he is less than 1 yr, I feel they hit max weight at 2 yrs. ), his/her keel feel normal to me. He is a nice solid compact body

Will DNA TEST soon...when I can print form

Ta-dah weight held at 68g
Meds mixed in peanut butter. I mixed in a little Xtra, cuz this isn't exact. But she ate it and didn't vomit. I prefer giving the meds right in her mouth....but they obviously make her vomit that way. And with food she can keep it down. I'm picking up marshmallow fluff later to try, abd incase treatment is extended.

Once again vet made right call !

The other birds had no problems with the meds. That's why they are well!!

Today's pic. Getting birds to co exist is a careful process, takes time . They all have their own cages.

And incase this is your first time visiting my thread..

Weigh your bird weekly, daily when sick. Use a digital kitchen gram scale, easy to find and cheap. 95% of the time your bird will drop weight when sick before you ever see any other symptoms, or you have the dreaded sudden death. Exceptions sure like egg binding, toxin, or a rapid illness, or fluid retention..
% weight loss is what you go on. 3% or greater you should see the vet, 5-10% is a very , very sick bird. To figure out % lost. Take the weight lost and divide by normal weight x 100 = % lost. Catching a bird early in the illness equals life, and easier and shorter treatment.
Ta-dah is normally 74 grams, she lost 9 grams down to 65 grams.
9 ÷74 x100= 12.1% weight-loss!

This thread started with one sick bird Penny my quaker. I weighed the rest if the flock the first day Penny was sick. They were normal. Everybody was fine no symptoms, but when I weighed them a week later they had all lost4-16% weight!! I couldn't belive it, they seemed perfectly healthy, normal poops, eating active. So I want and bought a second scale. But the weight loss was real. They were all started on antibiotics. 2 had developed dark iris that I didn't pick up on at first. This darkening of iris was notable in my blue eyed bird whos eye changed to black/ red the iris, its weird birds eyes are different. This is linked with Chlamydia, or a systemic infection. Later I had the flock have a few symptoms, but not all of them. Some only ever had weight-loss as their symptom.

Because I checked their weight, non of them got in the life threatening shape my Penny did. Because of Penny almost death, she needed support feeding of baby bird formula.

Because I kept checking their weights, and Tadah wasn't gaining weight back, we upped her dose of antibiotics. And did support feeding at her sickest.

Ta-dah held at 70 grams
Thats great I didn't expect a back to back gain.
Today is azithromyacin day, will try in marshmallow fluff .
Edit: fluff was a failure, so was bread, so gave in icing ( pinky nail amount)

Penny also holding at 105 grams. Is not getting any baby burd food anymore.

Here is Orbit enjoying romaine lettuce. Today us corn, peas, green beans, strawberries, squash, brussel sprouts, lettuce abd egg. In addition to their normal diet.
