Hello, I was very scared. I have a Brazilian lovebird and he ate a piece of roasted peanut. I don't know what to do. Can you please guide me? Does he get sick?

Raw peanuts can sometimes contain a fungus that causes aspergillosis, roasting them reduces that possibility but it still can very rarely occur. If you are concerned your could consult an avian vet, and i will provide a link below for your reference. I'm not a vet so I can't give you any guarantees, but I think the odds of one piece of roasted peanut causing your bird a problem are fairly low, however I would avoid feeding them in future :)

Are roasted peanuts (good grade) really dangerous to birds? I see pieces of peanuts in parrot mixes and I feed unsalted roasted peanuts to the wild birds and other critters all the time. I hope I'm not endangering them!

Thank you very much, really appreciate the help. As I said, I am very scared and stressed because my parrot is very young and I am dependent on him. However, I hope that he is not really sick. This was the first time he ate peanuts. Thank you for the hope, I will follow the symptoms.

Thankfully it's rare, less common with roasted nuts but can be present from the shells. But a very good friend of mine lost two of his flock to aspergillosis about 2 years or so ago, and raw peanuts were suspected by their vet as the cause. Not worth the risk IMO.

You're most welcome, @Emma 000, I hope your little one will be ok!

I believe it is the possibility of aflatoxin (caused by a fungus) which occurs when the plant goes through a dry weather spell as the seed is ripening. We have this problem with corn and milo some years and have even had to destroy entire crops due to it. The smaller the animal the more danger there is. However in large percentages it will even kill cattle and humans
The grain is tested every load.
