Parrot Sexual Behavior

My conures are clucking in the corner of the cage together. My Jenday is a DNA sexed female. I was told my sun is a male I myself haven’t DNA sexed him. My Ekkie is a male without a doubt. He’s green! He doesn’t do this clucking behavior. He shakes his tail feathers.

Would this indicate that both of my conures are females? Do males have clucking behaviors too?

Can't speak for conures, but my amazon girl definitely does that, and my previous assumed to be male BFA was AWFUL when having his way with whatever item struck his fancy. I wonder if it's typical for the ekkie boys to be so quiet about it. Like they're in stealth mode so you don't notice your knuckles being molested. Sorry dude, we notice

I just had a vet appointment. A lot of vets see parrots/birds. They know their biology. They are very educated on illnesses. I do appreciate vets.



Mine just told me Ekkie’s don’t just become hormonal in captivity, and they shouldn’t be doing what they are. Bless her heart she is trying to help, and “fix” it. I don’t think she understands that parrots are kind of hormonal, and some more so than others. All of my parrots have exhibited hormonal behaviors, and they sometimes mate with random things. I haven’t found a “fix”, and I have followed strict instructions trying to “fix” it myself. Nothing has helped. I honestly just ignore the behavior. Nico definitely displays behaviors that vets find are very inappropriate. He likes to give his full self to what he likes…. Perches, his favorite toy, and his favorite person all get his love. If he were human he’d be in prison

I have 2 female cockatiels that are hormonal year round.
One does the butt wiggle and the other likes back stimulation.

I am almost positive that Luna is female.
I still have hope Merlin is male but….. IDK
maybe he just doesn’t know what to do.
They have a fairly fixed season around April.

DNA male.
Sometimes horny all year.
Primary season for him is end of December first couple weeks in January.
This year he had a mid year interest in mating like around July.

The first time Tucker decided to try to love on my daughter, she didn't realize what he was doing. She thought it was cute and said, Look dad, he's wagging his tail!" I immediately got him to step up and put him on a chair and turned my back on him. Daughter asked why, so I clued her in to what he was doing. She was so grossed out, I wish I had a camera handy to capture the faces she made!

I have a macaw licking me!!! Yes licking me… I’ve had him 3 weeks I just found out from someone who’s more experienced with macaws than I am that it’s their “season”. I guess I’m going to be learning macaw hormones right off the bat.

I’ve only given him head scratches. He had his first vet appointment (broken wing), and they want me stretching out his wings for physical therapy. He is taking some meds. The only thing this has done is make him like me a little more than he should.

If someone figures out a trick to parrot hormones so they don’t take relationships the wrong way… please message me, or post it. Tag me.

Not sure about the licking, but we've had folks here with big birds that have a thing for sticking their tongue in ears and noses.
Tucker does the beak banging thing for attention, usually on the bottom of an empty food bowl to make good and darned sure I see said EMPTY bowl

For sure on the knuckles issue here too. And shoulders. Relentless, but stealthy.

My girl is hormonal all year long. I travel to see a certified avian vet. The vet is willing to do a hormonal implant for her to help lessen the hormones but so far I have not taken her up on it. Ive been managing mainly through diet. Its not perfect but as long as shes not actively seeking out family members to attack them, ill forgo the hormonal implant.

My BFA used to have a thing for my wife's hair. He'd hang out on her shoulder, and then would stealthily grab the hair and try his best to have his way with it, honking and grunting all the while. Wasn't often, but yeah, he was kind of a pig now and then

I think that's another trait then lol. Piccolo grabs onto my necklace. it can be hard to get him to let go. I come out of the situation feeling violated lol. I miss the days when he was trying to mate with my husband. It was much funnier then....

I even tried to get him to be distracted with a red rabbit stuffed toy I found. We named her Honey Bunny...but he only beats it up, tosses it. Not fooled.

We got Bingo back in 1985.
We (wife and I) knew nothing.
But Bingo first tried to mate with my wife’s hand.
When she realized what he must be doing she was repulsed and “shook him off” her hand.

I can’t be sure at this distance of time but I think that was the point Bingo decided she was Public Enemy #1 and would fly too attack her.
As for me, I let him “have his way” with my hand if that’s what he wants.
It’s a small thing.

My oldest cockatiel Baby who must be close to 25 years old hasn’t slowed down.
He still wiggles (what we call it) on my hand every time I let him out. …. Year round.
But at his age he wants to have a second round but he just can’t manage it.
