I read a thread written by someone and i just wanted to relay a problem that just happened to me. I purchased a pineapple green cheek parrot from Parrot Crown that is based in Los Angeles. I purchased the bird on line on 02/23/23. I talked with someone on the telephone and was assured that the bird was hand raised and was a baby. The bird was not tame and will now step up onto my finger than fly up. I took the conure last week to a breeder that i found who cuts toenails. While talking with the breeder today, i started talking about just buying my green cheek and it was supposed to be about 7 months old. The breeder told me that this bird that was sold to me is not a baby and is nearer being 5 years old. I was fraudulently sold a bird that sold as a baby when it was not. I would avoid buying birds from this place. I read at least one other complaint about some that spent a lot of money and was sold a bird that died the next day. Fortunately, my bird did not die and i did not spend thousands on a bird that died the next day. I do not appreciate being lied to. I just want to pass the word of what happened to me so anyone doing business with Parrot Crown knows what these people are capable of

Hi there, I’m so sorry for your experience.

I have not met your conure, or have I seen photos so this just my personal experience with having a baby conure to when she’s an adult.

I have a Jenday conure. I cannot tell the difference between her by looks from when she was 1 year old to now (she is now about 15 years old). She got her adult feathers the first year I had her. I myself cannot tell the difference even in photos.

I know baby birds in general have survival challenges. I’m not well versed on it as I’m not a breeder, or vet. There may be others on here that will chime in that may have more experience with this.

I’m so sorry you had a negative experience with purchasing a parrot again. I got my first parrot from a large chain store, and I adopted my other ones. I’ve never purchased from a breeder before.

SO after a parrots baby eyes change and they get their adult plumage, there is literally no way to tell their age - a 1-1/2 yr old looks identical to a 5 or 10 or 20 year old. Instead of stressing, take heart that you don;t have to go thru puberty with your parrot - like human kids, that is often a stressful time for all parties involved and pubescent parrots are known for all sorts of on/off bad behavior, switching their fav persons etc etc. A 2 -5 yr old has stabilized into its adult personality. You love him? Is he friendly to you? Great - go forth and be the best parront you can be!

I am sorry too for your experience. Glad you posted this. Hopefully others will read it, becoming alert.  Reported internet fraud is approaching 20 billion dollars a year.

An experienced CAV can sometimes estimate(within a wide range) the age via radiographs by assessing joint condition and arthritis. I was told my CAG was 8yrs old. Dr. says middle aged due to radiographs.
