Has anyone else seen the inside of their parrots beak? My macaw was chewing up some wood, and I seen his choanal papillae. I had to google what it was. It looks like something that belongs in a horror movie. If anyone knows its purpose please do share.

If you Google choanal papillae bird there's a pretty good explanation of what their function is.

My google tells me it’s for respiratory (breathing), feeding, and making sounds depending on the website :-/

I had never heard of them. Strange looking structures! Almost like throat teeth.

Naturally I had to look it up too. Definite horror movie material.

I don't know what I'd do without Google- I look up EVERYTHING, and then I look up what I learn to learn more! People tell me I'm a sea of (useless) information but I must give credit to Google.

Glad to find another member of the  UIC; useless info club. I look up everything and cross check it. Been that way forever.
