So I came home from my clinicals to find a parakeet dropped off in front of my apartment. I was surprised but brought it in. I had to leave for work soon but as I make time for my birdies I let all three green cheeks out. I turned away for one second only to hear high pitched shrieking. Genesis had latched onto the little one's foot through the cage bars and seemed to have gotten its face also. I called my vet and he told me to come down and drop the bird off, and as I had to go to work, I would pick him up tomorrow.

I got him back today and I feel terrible. One toe on his foot had to be taken off. I now have to also give it a drop of antibiotics twice a day. I already have a home picked out for him, a coworker who has a parakeet and a cockatiel. I figure its going to a good home. Well, at least much better than I can provide at the moment.

Yikes!!! Poor little guy!! Glad you were able to get him to the vet so quickly!

Other than his toe, is he alright?? Did the vet do any screenings for diseases and such? (I would be concerned with anything being transmitted from him to your current flock.)

Any idea who could've dropped him off on your doorstep? Seems kind of odd, but who ever it was obviously knew you're a bird person!

Yeah everyone calls me the crazy bird lady, even my friends. I'm thinking its due to the fact we got new management who wanted to check up on all of the apartments. I was fine with it. The new manager commented on my three conures but as I have written permission from the owner (our apartment has a no pets policy unless we get permission with the owner) there isn't anything she can do. At least I've got a home lined up for it. Still frustrated though.
