I currently work in a place that also sells birds and unfortunately on of them has came down with this virus.

I have been around this bird but not in the past few days and i am just wondering is there any chance that my wee Quaker parrot might have caught it from the wee budgie. I dont know how contagious it is and dont really know much about it either.

I only found out about this result today from a work colleague and immediately after i rang my exotic/avian vet and got an appointment for tomorrow for a test for my wee quaker.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of virus or know much about it.

Any information will be greatly appreciated as i am panicking over the results when i get the test dont tomorrow for my own wee quaker.

From what i have been told it either is or is like the HPV virus which can be in different strains for different animals.

It seems to cause non-cancerous warts on the animal which end up needing removed but i have been told it shortens their lifespan greatly.

I have never heard of it myself until today so was just wondering if anyone else did which it seems like it is not very common.

Just trying to keep my fingers crossed that everyone test negative for it.

O think we all have a big fear of viruses with this pandemic.
But I'm very hopeful with no direct contact, that your birds are safe.

What symptoms did the budgie have? What precautions are the pet store taking?

So pretty much the budgie came in with its feathers in all shapes. Kind of like when you wake up from sleeping and your hair is everywhere.

The poor wee thing also had a pretty severe underbite but i dont think wither of these are symptoms of the virus. I work in the pet shop but not actually on the floor. I work as a dog groomer but it just so happens to be in the same place.

From what none of the other birds were in contact with the wee budgie apart from 1 which is going to be tested too but all of the cages are getting fully cleaned and disinfected.

Papillomavirus virus is just terrible, and if not managed correctly will continue to spread like wild fire and is pretty well incurable.

Without revealing any names from someone on social media, a girl on there bought a black headed Caique from a dodgy pet store in Victoria, Australia and then brought the bird home without quarantining it and let it mingle with her other birds such as her eclectus, macaw and variety of conures. The bird got continually sick over time and she ignored advice from more experience people and then finally got the bird tested. Came back positive the test, but she didnā€™t end up quarantining the bird whatsoever so almost all the others have come back with positive results now.

Just a horrid disease you canā€™t mess with, very sad to see such birds deteriorate

Yes i am just so flipping scared that my bunch have it. I am just hoping that i have taken enough precautions when coming home like making sure to get a shower before entering the room etc... but i just keep going through my head that maybe i didn't do something right.

I am just hoping and praying that the results come back as negative as i just dont know what i would do without them all :(

My wee ones are all fine apart from Vinny who has been going through quite a long moult. Roughly how long does a moult last.

Whatā€™s the petstore doing about the little budgie? And did they test their other birds?

So the wee budgie was in the quarantine room and was only with 1 other budgie which was not in the same cage but it was beside it. So due to this they have completely sprayed down and cleaned the caged/room and the 1 budgie is going to get tested (prob already has).

The other birds have not been in any contact with the parrot what so ever but then again i work in the groomers and not on the shop floor so therefore i can say for sure.
