One of my Orchid plants made Keiki....

I don't do this anymore...With 2 birds and a full time job, I hardly find time to water my orchids.
There are many recipes for medium on line. The main ingredient is Agar so it gels up. I used banana recipe, I could look it up for you if you are seriously want to do it (I have my files still). It's a very time consuming thing to do and requires a lot of bleach.... :).
But for time being I'll post one of my fav orchids that is blooming for me right now. It blooms for me for the 3rd time and with 3 flowers (one is upside down....:)).

I'll find a picture of my glove box and post it later (sorry, I came home late tonight...have to spend some time with my birdies....

OMG, that orchid is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! If you do find your files, please do forward it to me! I have orchid seeds ready to seed so now I just need to know how to get it started! I've watched a video of them using bleach and all. I have insomnia issues so I'll find the time to fit it in...lol....You'll find me scrubbing toilets and bath tubs at 3 or 4 in the morning so planting orchids at that time wouldn't be hard. :D

  What a GORGEOUS Cattleya!!!! Is it fragrant???

Let me see if I can dig up a photo of mine while it's flowering.

That's beautiful too Wendy!!! I guess I'll need to look into getting cattleya orchids. I have 5 phalaenopsis orchids. 20 something violets? I lost count...lol....and bunch of other plants...

Wow Wendy, very pretty Catt you have there! Very healthy looking too.

Thank you for liking my chid...It actually looks even better, my camera can't capture the beauty of it. And YES, it is VERY fragrant.....smells like cloves....:)

Mike, I'll get home tonight and look for the stuff I can find on propagating orchids for you. I might have to scan it for you as I have it in a folder. I hope it has a link to the web site, so I can just send you a link. But either way I'll PM you the formula I was using. Get your pressure cooker ready...:D

It's funny how I spent all this money, time and effort on propagating some orchid seeds the "RIGHT" way, but really didn't get any good orchids out of it. But after I gave up this proccess, one day I pollinated one of my dendrobiums and forgot about it, so it spreaded it's seeds all over my other orchids......and the babies grew by semselfs in a pot of one of my Paphs (it was moist there all the time)...no bleach, no glove box, no nothing....LOL
Orchids are very facinating plants, no doubt....I am glad there are people on this forum who can appreciate them.

Oh there's quite a few plant folks on here other then Wendy and I. I wonder if I set up some moss pots and put some seeds in there if they would grow. :)

Oh please, Torrap, let us ingest ALL your information..... :D

It will be MOST welcome, no doubt!!! I LOVE my orchids!!!

Sorry, Michael, not meaning to derail your thread, grandpop. ;)

ha! That's cool! I haven't had any of my phaels do that but a dendrobrium I had used to make a new keikei every year and bloom from it. Pretty cool!

Your fine Wendy! We need more plant information!!!!! :D

Ahem. Perhaps we could instigate a gardener's forum to tuck in alongside the others? I've got mostly dendrobiums (being in Australia), but I've recently lashed out and planted a cattleya and a few oncidiums. No flowers from those this year, but hopefully next year will see at least one or two. I hope. Oh, I *do* hope!

I love African Violets too, but can't seem to find just the right spot for them to flower. One day last year, I was given a leaf by the local nurseryman. I stuck it in a pot, covered it and forgot about it. I took the lid off the pot the other day and it's *huge*! AND it's a trailer! Now, I *have* to find a good spot so my baby can flower!

From my understanding reading about them that it's pretty common for phalaenopsis to grow Keiki like that but I'm not sure. Even though I've been keeping orchids for awhile now, it's still rather new to me learning about it all. :)

Betrisher,

I can't find anymore violets in my area that I don't have a collection of so that might do me some good....lol

So, the formula I was using is very simple, I can just write it here:
10g agar
5-6 cups distilled water
1 ripe banana (for mother flask), 2 ripe bananas (for re-plate)
1 tsp activated carbon powder
8 drops of Superthrive
1/4 tsp fertilizer 20-20-20
one drop of KLN root stimulator can be added to each flask
You can also buy medium from Aaron J. Hicks. Just google OSP or Orchid Seedbank Project. I had more success with his medium than with my own. Aaron actually has a lot of good reading material on his website about orchid seed germination and how medium should very depending on what you are sowing. Also you can buy seeds and even flasks from him (which I did too). He sells his flasks on EBay sometimes......

I don't know if I can post it here, but just delete it if it's not allowed.
I have a link to the orchid forum where I posted my project, so you can see some pictures if interested. The way it's set up on that forum is a bit different, where the first (original) post is at the very end. My user name is "orchidea".....

My first flasking project just started..... - Orchid Forum Orchid Care

I am still looking for the picture of my glove box. I bought a new computer since I did my project, there is a chance I lost bunch of pictures.....
