Ollie love love loves this toy... I'm getting jealous! Jk.
On a side note, at the bird store a teenager was buying an Amazon parrot and didn't know a damn thing about birds. She was like "will it need to be held a lot? It won't bite me will it?" I told her that yes it will need LOTS of love and attention and yes you WILL be bitten. In fact the little guy lunged at her a few times but I'm not sure she knew what he was doing. She also asked if it would ever poop on her or if he knows how to "hold it". She also told the shop owner she wouldn't need many toys because her mom would be home all day with the parrot in the same house....ummmm what? Another guy came in with his African Grey and the little thing looked awful and had ripped up tail and wing feathers that definitely looked like evidence of a cage that's too small. He asked for the cheapest seed and left... I'm hoping it wasn't for the AG. /Sigh I just paid for Ollie's toys and got out of there as soon as I could before I started to cause a scene. Ffs! Why?! Also, they had Yellow Napped Amazons and I said to my husband I think we could use a Salty in our lives. Haha.

And, one of the reasons that the rescues are overflowing! Far too many stupid people! And, the Pet Stores see stupid people like that everyday, all day!

I'm sorry to read this. You may know I'm new to the forum as well as being a new parrot mom. But, as I mentioned in my welcome thread I've had Labs & cats my entire life. If the breeder deemed you unfit for a puppy, there was no way you were leaving with one of their puppies. Now, I know in the pet store world of the two leggeds they are not ethical. But, I thought possibly in the 'bird world' things were different. At least from my experience frequently visiting 3 separate bird stores over the past several years. They would out right tell people they had to come in weekly to spend time & get educated. I was very impressed with their advocacy & scrutinizing of the potential buyer.

The fact that this store would sell an innocent dependent baby bird to a clueless young girl (teenager) is infuriating. IMHO

Some pet store are conscientious I just hope she realizes she's full of fail and ends up here; where she can be helped by some of the smartest bird owners on the internet.

Sunny, Salty is still an amazon, and it took ( takes) a lot of work and attention to keep him like that. A Yellow nape is a whole 'nuther story. They arent called the hot 3 for nothing. Sailboats will tell you - a rescue YNA ( and thats pretty much what you'd be getting from this pet shop) will take a lot of love, attention to gain his trust. ANd you have a parrot already. Just dont think a parrot like Salty materializes as soon as you get him home. As far as this pet shop, I wish they would stick to dogs, cats and fish. Parrots need so much more then those animals to remain tame and good companions.

Also, they had Yellow Napped Amazons and I said to my husband I think we could use a Salty in our lives. Haha.

You'd probably get a Goofy instead. There's a reason why we call him the Evil Attack Parrot. We love him, but he's a jerk.:D:D:D :green2:

@Wrench Lol..yeah I know that Salty is still an Amazon and it takes daily work...like not just giving kisses and petting Ollie like I do but it's more than that with an Amazon. I kind of want a 2nd bird but I hesitate a lot on getting one of any kind. Ollie and I are 2 peas in pod (for now) and the thought of disrupting his life by getting another bird scares me a bit. I'm not sure he'd be happier so yeah no new birds for now. The sad part about this pet store is that it's a bird store and they have like 100 birds for sale or something. /Sigh

the idiocy of people is something I'm thankful that places like pets at home here have stopped selling birds. In fact it's hard to find a bird here as I can attest to. Unfortunately some breeders will sell to anyone whilst others demand everyone go by their rules only which some have the right idea others do stupid things. The breeder I got Rio from said to use grit with him and not once mentioned pellets, instead gave calcium powder. Of course the latter ones you just smile and nod, also you may learn something from them just take everything from them with a pinch of salt

OMG! Grit! Ate you kidding me? Wow. Yeah there is no winning by saying anything but I hope that other people getting birds from that breeder learn better than that soon after getting their birds.

yeah. I will admit I suggest grit but for budgies, it does seem to help them out in small amounts, seems to be an English thing. The grit they do give is derived from seashells so it isn't just rocks

No point getting into an argument but voicing your own thoughts in a constructive way is something I abide by. I don't like "believing" in something, harder to change a belief than an idea.

Of course if I was in your situation in the pet store it would take a large amount of willpower not to go into one of my "tough love" rants that I do oh so love

I'm glad to say my locally owned pet store won't even sell you a fish if your water quality tested bad. That's so sad that the owners of what sounds like a pretty amazing pet store aren't more responsible. That being said we still have the chain stores around here but not with that many birds. I got extremely lucky when I found Timneh at my locally owned pet store. They had bought her from an owner who was neglecting her and said she wasn't friendly. Haha all she wants to do is be with me I think someonewasnt very friendly with her.

IDIOTS!

Yeah. Get a zon. They'll suffer fools gladly...

I'm guessing the thumb gets it first!

Getting a bird without knowing how to train it?! NEVER A GOOD IDEA...

And if you're afraid of being pooped on?! DON'T GET ONE!

Why did she even want one based on this?! Seriously... wrong person to entrust a bird to!

Also the bird had more stress marks than I've ever seen on a bird. I could barely tell the color of the Amazon...I think.it was green with red on it's head. This WAS NOT a good match.

The willpower was strong with me.....

People nowadays forget that respect is a 2 way street and if you want that respect you gotta start walking down it. Birds understand respect more than most animals, they just need to be told where the line is and once they understand they respect those boundaries
