Parrots
6 mos old male Alexandrine parrot named Albert. :)
Bought a 6 mos old Alexandrine parrot. The first two days: a complete lover! He was precious- no biting anyone, dancing, very happy!
This morning, after I woke him up after a good night's sleep, I opened his cage door, gave him fresh water/food etc. I let him "wake up" and get his bearings while talking to him.
I then slowly put my and in and gave him the "step up" command (which he already knows well) and he bit me.
His cage is right by my computer, and I am ignoring him typing this. lol I just left the door open and came here for input.
He has been attached to me like velcro the first two days, but this morning he apparently woke up on the "wrong side of the cage".
Try to get him out again in a bit or ignore and just leave the door open. Oh, and he's never come out the door without me reaching in to put him on my hand.
so......?

Not a good idea to put your hand in a birds cage. Most of them will bite you. It must seem like an invasion to them. It can also make them cage possessive. Just open the door to the cage and wait. I keep a perch on the inside of the door for this purpose. When my bird steps up on that perch she is coorporative.

SB is correct, most birds will bite you. I am fortunate, I am able to reach into Mishka (my AG) bird cage, without a problem, and he willingly steps onto my hand....
HOWEVER, before placing my hand inside his cage, I ALWAYS tell him before hand what I intend doing. When giving his lovies (head scratches) I stroke my fringe a few times, and tell him lovies, before I even attempt the deed.

It all depends on the individual bird and how you train them! All my bigger parrots and 3 cockatiels I pick them up from inside their cage. I don't train my keets cause I let them do as they like in the aviary. Plus one mean cockatiel I giveup training...lol. having everyone together plus a aviary is not a good way to train....lol. he may be just a bit cranky, give him time to wakeup. You don't wake up all spiffy all the time, same with birds!

Thanks. And yes,you are right. Im not a morning person--apparently i got the perfect bird! He does let me get him if I take the top off. :) but i think i will try just opening his door until he's ready.

put a perch outside his cage as well, like SB i got 1 perch on the inside of the door and one outside, one of them bendy rope perches

Good point from Suebee there about the perch!!!
