New Owner- Getting nibbled on a lot!

Any more progress Lo Liv?

Syd gets fractious when he's tired. He will either go to the back of my neck and snooze a while of if he really has got himself overstimulated he gets slightly aggressive/bad tempered and I know it's time for some time out. He usually goes and eats and generally chills out and I can see he just needs some 'me time'.

A bit like a toddler that gets overtired and is just grisly and grumpy where nothing suits them. I think you will gradually read the signs as it seems no two birds are exactly alike.

Any more progress Lo Liv?

Hey! :gcc:

Yes! We had a full day of cuddles on Tuesday. We played in the sink and found out that Pancake loves Mom's fleece jacket. He squirmed all over to dry himself. It was very cute. He ended up falling asleep in my arms wrapped in fleece.

Then Wednesday, it was like I owned a different bird. He was moooooody. Lots of nipping. So we had to practice putting him down a few feet away. Over and over.

Today has been 50/50. He is nippy, but he's running right back to me. I guess he's a toddler...

Tonight I am camping. I feel dreadful for being away from him, but I figure it's good to give him a little space to explore his new digs. I made him a TP roll foraging toy that is filled with newspaper, Cheerios and a few little pockets of peanut butter. I am also leaving cartoons on for him this evening.

My sister will be coming by before bedtime to chat with him, cover his cage and turn off his cartoons. Then she will be back in the morning for uncover and breakfast conversation :)

I'll be back tomorrow evening. But it's still hard to think about being away from him. I'm attached already!!

Thanks for checking on us! :gcc:

Coco is like that..sometimes after several hours out of the cage, she starts to get nutty, feisty, and even at times, a PITA.....and yes, I looked up "fractious" lol

Next time he bites put him on the floor like 10 feet away. In the wild if a bird bites a buddy he's "shunned" put him on the floor and make him walk back to you. He will think about why he's there as he walks back and by the time he reaches you he will be sweet.

It might take a few times to fully register, but he will figure it out pretty quick.

Don't grab his beak or shake your hand or any sudden moves, just a "NO!" and put him on the floor to think about what he did.

:gcc:

Beat you this time! :p

Hello! My boyfriend and I just got a GCC this past weekend, and we're having the same issue. The only thing I'm confused about is you said not to grab the beak. How should I get her off of me at the moment then, if I can't grab her beak off? She latches on when she nibbles too hard, so I don't know any other way to get her off.

Thanks! :gcc:

Pry her off if you need to - but do get her off and try to figure out how you can avoid getting bitten in the future.
