haha, those Galah's might be considered pests in some parts of Oz, but they still give me a chuckle when they play 'circus' on the power lines across the road ;)

Anyway - Hi there bob, Quincy, Skittles and Dusty, welcome to this 'bird crazy' forum:D - A great community, filled with great people who love birds.

Thanks Ben,
Got the galahs a couple of months ago, I originally only wanted one, the breeder had two and I took a couple of hours picking Skittles, just about as soon as we left I wondered had I made the right choice, you guessed it, went back a got Dusty the next week....lol, though I love them dearly, I don't know that I would recomend more than one in a household, they surely are a handfull, now I truely know what the expression "Crazy Galah" is all about........

hehe, Galah's sure are funny birds (although surprisingly the quietest of the the cocky's we see here, which says a lot:rolleyes:).

I know what you mean with picking a bird lol, If I could I would have taken all the birds home when I picked Eddie up.

Hello :D

I'm Ten and this is my Evil Green Chicken, Adrian:

VjC9o.jpg

He's 5-ish, going on 6-ish. He's got one bowed leg from a break that healed crookedly when he was little, before we got him at age 4-ish.

He loves coffee, and his previous owners let him drink it, so now he gets pissy when he sees me filling my mug and not sharing with him.

He sings, plays peekaboo, and is generally adorable and bat****. He's allergic to food colouring and addicted to skritches.

He's got a fairly big cage and gets regular cuddles and skritches from me and my partner. He has an Aviator but we rarely get to use it thanks to the weather (though I might get to this week if it stays clear.) He's got toys, rope boings, several perches and a Twitter account. ;)

So, yeah, that's the parrot who owns me. *waves*

Hi guys :D

I am Marilize from Pretoria, south africa. Im currently studying industrial engineering, and live in a flat with my awesome senegal parrot, Sparky

I loooove animals, especially cats and birds.

I always wanted green ringnecks, and ended up buying a pair so i could raise their chicks... i ended up having 2 amazing tame ringnecks, candycane and cocopuff. Along with them, my cat that i have had since i was 7, Matewis (who loves birds... he watched me feed the baby ringnecks and understood they are not food). They all stayed at my parents house while i went to uni, with candycane and cocopuff becoming (tame) avairy birds (since they only loved me).

I started getting a bit lonely at uni - going from so many pets to no pets is not cool at all. Sooo then i got sparky (since senegals is supposed to be quiet) who turned out to be the most awesomest birdy ever. I went to the petshop with my friends, who were getting baby cockatiels... when i saw him in a little cage and fell in love with him :D. I bought him in the spur of the moment - he didnt even have a cage the first 2 weeks! Best choice i ever made :D

In the past year, unfortunately, Matewis (14) and Candycane (6) both passed away :(. Candycane first, in some strange accident where she broke her neck in her nest that she dug in the ground (i blame the cockatiel), then Matewis, after some ####$%# kicked him and broke his chest bone :'(

Soo when i came home for the holiday (just after Matewis died) my mom and my bf decided to get me a new kitten (since i was veryveryveryyy depro after my kitty died). My new kitty is called Minx (aka mini-mew). And, few days later, we got Bubblegum, a blue ringneck, to make Cocopuff happy :)

(yes, i know, i talk too much... specially about my pets :D)

Soooo now i have: Cocopuff (green female ringneck, 7 years)
Bubblegum (blue male ringneck)
Minx (ginger kitty, around 2 months)
Sparky (senegal parrot, around 1 year)

thanks for your welcome! I have been willed an african gray,(without feathers) I don't know what to do .

Hi CS and welcome to the forum, I'm not sure if we can help you without a little more information on what your situation there is and what your expectations are for the future of the bird, things like do you live in an apartment or house, do you have time to spend with the bird or do you have a busy schedule, what diet is the bird on, do you plan on keeping him or adopting him to someone experienced with birds ect ect, what type of help would you like from the members on the forum?

Hi all,

I am relatively new to the parrot ownership but my 2 son's each have a bird..a Conure and a Parrotlet. We also have 2 cats, 2 dogs, 5 finches, a Russian Tortoise, 2 red earred sliders and a Bearded Dragon (and a Partridge in a Pair Tree (hehehe)).

We adopted a 20 year old Amazon Grey (Gimmie) about a week ago from a 76 year old lady (Lee). Gimmie had lived with her off and on over the last 20 years but most has been with her son. Anyway, Lee had warned me that Gimmie was not fond of women but I knew this bird was more for my boys so that was not a big concern.

Gimmie fell in love with my boys and husband :) I on the other hand, am another story. After 2 days, I attempted to put my hand in her cage and get her out. I put on a long sleeved shirt (just in case) and went in. She grabbed on to me and would not let go. Luckily the shirt absorbed most of the bite but I still sustained quite a bit from her.

I am looking for any advice about this. Was it the shirt or me or just too soon to try and make friends with her or WHAT. I have heard from a trainer on the internet that they do not discriminate between men and women but then a training book I have said, yes they do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I want this bird to love me like all the men in my house :D.

Thank U!!

Brenda

Hi Brenda and welcome to the forum, I'm thinking whoever the trainer was that said that birds can't differentiate or don't discriminate between men and woman should maybe think about a new profession, birds are extremely intelligent and acutely aware of their surroundings, maybe a little more info might help us better help you, from your discription I'm not quite sure which species of bird you have, is it an African grey?, or possibly an Amazon parrot?, you said you were told the bird did not interact well with women, was that true of the 76 yr old woman as well?, having the bird only a week, and trying to interact with it in just the first couple of days is moving a bit to quickly, for you to have any type of success in a relationship with him/her you'll have to gain the birds trust, if at all possible I suggest trying to work with the bird without the guys around, you can start by interacting with the bird in the cage with little physical contact, spend time sitting by the cage and talking softly and lovingly, read to the bird, whatever it takes for him to get used to you and your voice and to show him your not a threat, after a couple days of doing that, try finding a treat he really likes and attempt feeding it to him through the bars, after a few days of doing this you can try opening the cage and see if he'll come out on his own, if he does again try feeding him treats outside the cage now, take your time and move slowly, its going to take time to build the trust so you don't want to rush it, and you never want to make the bird do something it doesn't want to, if you do it will set you back to square one, try these things for about a week and let us know how it goes, if well then we can help you proceed from there, if not then we'll keep working on the trust, this may take a good while, so don't get discouraged your patience will be rewarded, good luck and keep us updated on how your doing :)

Hi all, thought I had posted my intro. I am a previous mom to Sam (a tiel). Had Sam for several years till his death due to an accident while being bird sat by my pastor and family while I was out of town wil ill parents.

My favorite habit he had was to introduce himself to any visitors as they would come in the immediately start an interrogation of them. He would demand their name, what they were doing and flirt with them. Company always loved it and strangers were facinated with him.

I am a retired pediatric nurse and had a few hobbies on the side as do many people. I had a pastry and cake decorating business (did a few weddings and parties) that was alot of fun. Also had a reptile business with my daughter until she became disabled and could no longer work and we had to let that go.

We are looking forward to getting a new bird but are trying to do our homework before we do. Are most interested in the Grey. I am babysitting with my sisters Lori now and he is a blast.:D

Hello,I am an avid animal lover,I have a cocketiel name pebbles, but I would love to adopt a larger bird if anyone has one that needs a great home.our animals are our family,we also have Party Boy our boston terrier that thinks he is our little boy.we live in Mississippi in the country so we have alot of time to spend with our animals.I would buy a parrot if I could afford to but because of disability I am not able to.

I am mom to a 10 year-old CAG named Birnie. We adopted him from a rescue orphanage. His previous owner didn't know how to handle him so he was left in his cage most of the time. I had him sexed and confirmed what I thought - he is male. I had a female CAG when I got divorced and let my ex-husband keep her. She is 13 years old and I visit her frequently. My Birnie is very attached to my boyfriend and seems to talk most when he is around. I have only had him for a month and find him very calm and well mannered; however, he loves to throw his bowl out -- even with fresh fruit/veggies in it. Then he'll ask for it back -- I can tell by his body movements!!! Any suggestions on how to stop him from throwing his bowl out will be very helpful....

HI,
My name is Kelly and I"m from michigan. I just became a proud parent of a 7 year old blue crowned conure. I have had love birds before but this is my first "real" bird ;0) He is so much fun, but was excited to find this site to hopefully chat with others to learn his body language and learn from him so I am a better human pet ;0)
