Welcome Jen, your hubby and of course Bootsie.
Wonderful forum, lovely members and great posts.
Sun Concure's are beautiful birds. Sure we all spoil our birds, and why not.
They give us so much love, without realizing it.

Hello Everyone, I am a new parrot owner. I live in Mexico and Saturday a young boy showed up at my door with a paper bag full of Red Lored Amazons. I bought them immediately and proceeded to our vet. He is helping us with the hand feedings and hopefully we may be able to release them back into the wild. They are about 4 to 6 weeks old and the sweetest parrots I have ever met. For the time being, as we do not know whether they are male or female, we have named them John, Paul, George and Ringo. Anyone how is able to help me give them the best care possible, I would appreciate any and all tips. I just want them to be happy and if possible free.:green1:

Slams, glad to hear you were able to take them in. If they are very young, born and raised in captivity, they may not be able to fend for themselves in the wild. Wanting them to be free is one thing, but it may not be safe for them.

A couple options if you don't intend to keep them long term after nursing them back to health: you could adopt them out to good homes, or you could semi-release them. What I mean in the latter case is you can let them come and go freely, but continue to offer food and shelter for them as they need it. This allows them to be 'free' but also gives them the option of safety and security since they have not grown up to fend for themselves.

Hi, I heard about this forum on another forum (BackyardChickens.com) from parrotqueen and decided to come check it out. My avatar is a pic of two of my Bantam Pyncheon chicks because I don't have a parrot (yet!). I've been researching parrot breeds and was thinking seriously about getting a Green Cheek Conure, but a lady in a neighboring town is needing to rehome her female CAG. I'm supposed to go visit her tomorrow to meet her. I just checked out the book, Alex & Me, by Irene M. Pepperberg from the public library, and am going to read it tonight. When I go visit, are there any specific things to ask or look for? I have a wonderful Avian Vet that treats my chickens with the utmost respect, so I know that he will help me with any parrot that I decide to get. I also have a wonderful husband, 2 dogs, and a cat, in addition to a backyard standard laying flock of chickens including 2 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Delaware Blue Hens (2 roosters & 2 hens), 3 Speckled Sussex, 1 Black Orpington, 2 Sex-Links, 1 Araucana, and 1 Welsummer. I also have bantam breeds, including Pyncheon, Old English Game Bird, Dutch, Araucana, Barred and Columbian Plymouth Rock.

Hi All,
My name is Bob and I'm Located in sunny west central Florida with my feathered friends Quincy, a wonderful Blue Throated Macaw, and Skittles and Dusty, two beautiful Rose Breasted or Galah Cockatoos, I guess I went from one extreme to the other, Blue Throats are extremely endangered in the wilds of Bolivia,(est. 100-300 in the wild) where the Rosies are as common in most all of Australia as Pigions are in Central Park, considered by most farmers there as pests who are often killed because of thier large scale destruction of crops.
I've been in and out and around the avian world since the late 1970's and have seen alot of changes from mostly imported birds then, to mostly domesticatlly raised birds now,as I look back and reflect now I see both good and bad in both, major ones being, the depletion of breeding stock from the wild population from importing, to the over breeding and surplus far outweighing the supply and demand from domestic breeding, kind of sad when you look at a place like craigs list a see every other ad is for birds for sale or resale.......anyway
I joined the group to share with other like minded, bird brained folks like myself, looking forward share.......Bob.
