Hello,
I'm Chris Dooley and I have been reading this forum for about 2 months. Thank you all for your shared knowledge. I have learned a great deal. I recently adopted a Harlequin Macaw from a rescue organization in Georgia so I needed a quick Macaw 101 and this forum provided a lot of help. I'm calling him Phoenix.
I'm no stranger to birds. He makes my 4th rescue/adoption so I'm at my limit. (no more birds) My other birds are:
Sugar Bear - Sulfur Crested Cockatoo - age 18
Bart - Congo African Grey - age 21
Skittles - Blue Crown Conure - age 3
You can also find me on facebook under SugarBearCockatoo.
My new Macaw is a good boy. I'm his 5th owner if you count the 2 times he ended up at the same rescue separately. He is 9 years old. He is every bit as big as a green wing with the same temperament. All confidence, control and intelligence. We are dealing with some hormones, but he steps up well and communicates better. (and believe me, I listen) A tug on my pant's leg means he is ready to get down on the floor. He is training me quite well. He rarely has to tell me twice.
Thanks again for the continued information. There are some real professionals here and I was definitely better prepared for Big Bird's arrival because I had spent a few hours here reading. I look forward to getting to know this group better.
