How is he with being nippy now? Any better? Those are one of my favorites, but the nippiness and the way they put up their crest was always a little too intimidating for me for some reason. He is a real beautiful bird though!
He is still quite nippy; however, the blood-drawing bites are pretty much gone. He likes to nibble, and feel around with is beak, so it was a matter of helping him realize when he is using to much pressure.
I've gotten better at reading him, and don't bother him when he's in full on "Chief Maverick-Apache" mode. Usually doesn't take long for him to calm down.
He is also starting to test his boundaries lately. I cannot leave him alone in the room with Mopar for a single minute. He likes to fly to the living room and get into everything and anything his little beak can reach! So I have trying to be more diligent on bird proofing things. I hate it, but because of his wandering, I do have to cage him more than I would like, say... If I have to go outside and shovel snow. mopar, on the other hand, can be left out all day. Its so crazy how different these two are!
The other funny thing is how he can't seem to leave me alone. If I am sitting on the couch, or in the kitchen, he will fly over. While some may find this behavior quite amusing, I am afriad it is going to develop into an issue where he cannot be alone, and thus other issues may arise, so I am trying to limit this neediness, somewhat. Although, I'll admit, it is hard to do when that cute face is looking at you!
Maverick is also molting.... Bad! I have been bitten several times over this, but accidentally applying to much pressure to the pin feathers. It does seem to be affecting his mood, too. But I don't blame him.
