New cage top play area

Yes, this helps out immensely. Thank you so much, you may have just saved my flock from a horrible accident. I'm buying several packs from Amazon and throwing out the tear shaped ones I have.

I'm confused...the tear shaped one is NOT spring loaded. How is this one dangerous? I was under the impression to avoid the carabiner types.

Since it doesn’t have a hex shaped nut to tighten with a wrench our little fids can open them easier.
Plus they are usually made very flimsy.
Through some mishap Violet-Diva’s bird managed to open it, slipped and got fish hooked on it requiring an emergency trip to the vet. Fortunately she was prepared and rushed her in quickly. The hook went through the bottom of her jaw and into her mouth i believe.
Not something we are willing to risk with Arika and hope others take precautions to ensure cage hardware greatly exceeds the level of destruction / mischief that your fids can get into. :)

Thanks for the clarification. I do use them a lot and to be honest have not been overly impressed with them.
I have several of the Ovals and will, replace the others shortly.

I'm glad I did this post regarding Roux's play areas as some pointed out I had things used to attach toys, etc that could be dangerous.

I would like to perhaps argue that the ones with the screw portion to close the device perhaps are not dangerous per se. These usually come standard with most toys. However they are cheaply made hence why they are used my manufacturers. I have had ones that were stripped so never tightened properly. Diligence is important and to inspect things you put in your parrots cage. If anything seems defective it should be discarded and a functioning one used.

However I ordered multi-links from Amazon

And removed these from the cage:

Peace of mind is better

Thanks

Glad to hear you are playing it safe. Never know what our feathered friends can get into. We hope that others see these posts and can make a few changes to keep their little ones safe too.
