I bought each bird a new cover for their cages, I bought them from Kings, covers fit nice & snug on the cages, one problem with them.

pic one is Holly's after the first night

pic two is Stewie's after the first night

Snug fitting with a too...not for long. Even my loose fitting ones always got eaten by my too.

I'm sorry...I laughed and I know it's not funny because they cost a lot of money.

my son bought them for me, when I saw the zippers, I said these have no chance.

I'm going back to sheets,

I like the little round window he made at the top. Almost like the attic window. Stewie's will be good to use as a pattern to make one out of heavy black canvas, with no zippers and stuff he can grab from inside. It what I did to make Saltys cover. Once its on, it is BLACK inside the cage and he goes to sleep.

that's a great idea wrench,

when i came down this morning stewie was looking trough the hole

I'm a terrible person for cracking up at the pictures. Then you told us he was peeking through the hole and I completely lost it. So sorry this happened, a little sorry for laughing ;).

I buy cheapo king size sheets from Walmart for Rocky's cage (he's the only one who gets covered at night) and replace them when they're too shredded to be usable any longer. We're about due for a new one now, in fact.

I never cover my birds because it almost cost the life of a young Goffin. Allow me to share the story, and please note I am not judgmental and certainly respect those who choose to cover!

Abby's cage was located in an area that temporarily had window coverings removed for replacement. There was a floodlight just outside, so I covered his cage with a sheet before bedtime. A bit later I happened to walk by and heard a thrashing sound from inside his cage. Abby had drawn a section of sheet into the cage, chewed a hole, and somehow got his head twisted inside. There was a tight constriction around his neck, and I quickly found scissors to cut him free. He was definitely in distress and panted for a minute or so. Perhaps a freak accident, but it made a frightening impression.

So Scott, do you have a separate bird room? How do you make their portion of the house dark while you are still awake?

Same as Scott I don't cover. BB is in the active part of the house. TV is 10 ft from his cage and stays on after he roost . Never seems to bother him. In fact last night about midnight i walked by his cage and he had his head turned resting on his back. Fast asleep .

Most birds are in a repurposed bedroom and some in a finished garage. Window coverings are installed in the bedroom but not the garage. Normal bed-time seasonally is at sundown when the lights are turned off and they go to sleep. Garage is quiet, but some noise from human activity is present in the bedroom. Not much of a problem, they seem to understand when the day is finished! My TAG in the bedroom frequently says "good night" when the light is turned off and shades are drawn!!

I cover my bird and he's always quiet an I watch some tv and even leave it on for him

I used to cover the small parrots in the winter because I thought it kept them warmer overnight, but not in summer in order to keep them from getting too hot. We don't have air conditioning. Last fall I never got around to start the winter covering and they seemed to like waking up on their own when it got light enough in their room. I don't cover my starling because she panics. Rocky 'Too, however, expects and demands a cover promptly at 8 p.m. every night and since he's in the living room, where we are and the TV is, I cover him. He can pull the cover off if he wants to, and has done so some mornings, but I think he must like having the privacy and darkness.

I've been through 1/2 dozen covers with Stewie, he always makes a peep hole

Smokey was the same way..funny to watch as she pulled the covers in

between the bars at night...destroyed quite a few in her years lol
