hi, I am a complete bird newbie and want to know a lot more, hence joining this forum.
So a bit about our bird and how we came to get her.
I am an avid aquarium keeper and when a new exorics shop opened in our town I couldnt help but go in. My son was with me and he was drawn to the bird section, and to one particular bird. He told me there and then that he wanted the bird. I said no. He spent about an hour and a half whistling with the bird which went berserk when he left the room and started chirping when he returns entered. I still said no telling him he wouldn't look after it, and we left.
The next day I got up and my son wasn't in the house. I asked my daughter where he was and sh said he'd gone out muttering something about a parrot. I drove the mile to the shop and he was there. I asked the shop keeper how long he'd been there and he said he was waiting for the shop to open at 8 it was now 9.30. He'd cleaned out all the birds, fed and watered them and swept the floor. He did this everyday. I asked him why he was doing it and he said "so I can prove I can look after a bird and you'll let me have one". This carried on forvtwo weeks with him looking on the Internet on foods, habits, likes etc until I finally gave in and bought him the bird and cage on Christmas Eve but not before doing a lot of research so we could look after her properly and so we knew what to expect.
So now you know how our bird has come into our family but there are a few questions I have.
Our rosella is pictured on my profile picture, she is very young and her breast colour is a dark peach so can anyone tell me what this type of rosella this is and, I know they like fresh fruits but are there any which I shouldn't give her as the "don'ts" advice are very thin on the ground.
I have placed the picture in a reply to this thread below.
I'm am keen to know about what foods to avoid. I'm thinking fruits like grapes, kiwi fruit etc. I am just trying to vary her diet to keep her interested.
