That's a beautiful bird. Is it a Ringneck or Alexandrine.???

That looks like a blue indian ringneck, not an alex. There's quite a size difference in them, plus alex's have a larger beak and a flatter shaped head. Not only that, but they have a red patch on the wing. In the blue/par-blue mutation, that patch will be either orange or grey-white.

Your bird is missing the typical markings of an alexandrine.

Still, he/she is a gorgeous bird! Have you recall trained the bird? I see the bird is fully flighted and you had him/her outside bathing... and again, inside, with the door open. Unless the bird is recall trained to come on command, you risk losing your bird and having less of a chance of retrieving him.

Sorry if this is not the best welcome, but I'm concerned for your bird!

Monica,

I thought that's the ringneck too, but in the pet shop they said it's Alex. :) Currently she's trained for recall only (didn't have time to train anything else yet). Also during the past week I tried to spend all the time with she eating together on a balcony and walking around the house. This week we trained to recall/fly outside everyday. But there were 6 times she decided to fly away. Three times she returned to the balcony. And three times she just came to me on recall after some time.

Now I can see she flies carefully and wisely. Seems she's afraid of loosing me from her sight.

She's a gorgeous girl, and it's lovely to see her enjoying her bath. I agree with the other commenters...she's definitely IRN.

I know birds prefer voice and don't like touch much, but I'm trying...

So glad to hear that!!! I hope she learns the recall down pat!

You're video says indian ringneck, and she has the characteristics of one! I just can't see any alex in her. I posted links to some mutations for comparison, if it would help?

Yes definately a beautiful blue ringneck. I was being polite regarding my questioning it. I think maybe the petshop had an Alex in the cage as well & didn't think to tell you the difference.

Your baby is still only young so will be attached to you but as it get older & more independent it will be more inclined to want to fly off. Especially if something frightened it.

It is very important for you to gain her/his trust first, once you have that training to recall & touch will all fall into place.

I am hand rearing 7 baby Alexandrines & 5 baby Ringnecks ATM. They are all cute & cuddly.:)

Thank you Pedro and Monica! Yes, I think she's the Blue ringneck.

but as it get older & more independent it will be more inclined to want to fly off.
I hope she can return back than... do they have a good memory to find the way back?

If you train her well, she'll stick around and come when called. However, it can be pretty scary when they first decide to spend time outside, especially at night. You may have to leave her outside and go back out early morning. If you haven't, you may be interested in joining a free-flight group. There is one on Yahoo.

The two videos you posted of her flying were amazing!

Here's the group. It has a lot of great articles and information, as well as from other members who are experienced owners with free-flight birds.

Freeflight : Freeflight

If you haven't done free-flight before, they can explain far better than I about the training process and what to expect. So far, it looks like you've done well with Riya!!!!
