Hi, i just got a congo African grey on friday. I was told shes not very friendly, and she did nip at my arm. Shes 7 years old. Anyways, shes very smart and ive already started target training with her using a clicker.. she understands, and seems to enjoy it. The problem is, shes starting to develop "mating behaviors" with me. She regurgitates when i talk to her, and she likes to stand on my arm and move her wings to the side. Im not sure what I should do about this. Should i still interact with her when shes acting like this or should i ignore her?

Also isn't it very odd, that she can go from biting me on friday, to showing me mating behaviors by sunday?

She will also do a very high pitched "beep/scream?" whenever anybody comes near her, im not sure if this means she wants us to back off or what

Welcome and be welomed. She is still settling in. Greys are very observant and smart, as you are finding out. Im not a Grey owner but there are tons of them on here. Conrats on your new girl!

Where are all of the grey owners at? I need advice! lol

Congrats on your new grey! When she begins this behavior, you need to distract her. When any of my greys have tried this, I immediately change the activity or put them back on the stand or cage and walk away for a while.

There are more threads on the CAG forum I think can be helpful. It will take her some time to settle. The biting and nipping will subside. Don't worry. Greys aren't generally aggressive.

Try training her. Target training, station training, train her to forage...give her something to do, give her direction. Instead of trying to train her not to do something, train her to do something more appropriate

She's just trying to figure things out. I suspect in a few weeks things will have settled into a good routine.
