So i may have to go back to 3 feedings because I do not see him eating the seed. Nor much water... Although today when he had a bath he drank the water and I saw him dip his head in his water bowl in his cage... LOL

I want wondering what some of the noises he was making meant. I named the file what I thought they might mean.

Can someone email my pvrt email so i can send them the sound file... ? there are 3 different chirps he/she does....

IF you have a grate on the bottom of the cage, I would suggest remove it for now. Place the food in a shallow dish and a water bowl on the bottom of the cage. They forage on the bottom, also put water and food in the regular dish too. Eventually he will figure it out then you can put the grate back in.

Okay I'll remove it right now! He is always on his swing though should i remove it until he learns where the seed and water are?

I just have a question, because where I am from (bc canada) I have not heard of anyone buying unweaned birds, is this a normal thing? What is the advantage of this? My dad breeds cockatiels and lovebirds and none of his birds leave untill they are fully weaned, fledged flying and in almost full feather. He has never had an issue with the birds connecting to their new family.

btw, thanks for sharing, too cute!

@ Pittiepride - It's been to many years since I've last weaned a bird myself. So I'd rather seek advice than do something wrong. I find the birds become more attached and at a faster rate. It is not illegal as far as I know. I doubt someone would risk their breeding license for something so silly. Many people who know what there are doing buy unweaned birds if they have the time and patience to do the job. It's not normal or abnormal for such a situation to occur. Many breeders do as your father. It just so happens that I have spoken to the woman on several occasions and from doing animal rescue for 6-7 yrs she trusts me. Kix is doing great! He went down and stick his head in the water after I removed the bottom as Mike said. Hope my msg answered your question. :)

You can leave the swing. Just remove the grate. :)

okay thanks. It's removed. I saw him eating the seed off of a snack that a perch is near so that's good.

Lovebirds are easy to wean, I never had a problem weaning Lovebirds. :)

Mike!! Kix is eating the seed from the shallow bowl!!!!!!!

Congrats! Give just one feeding per day making sure he is eating! If he is eating his food real good, id probably would cut handfeeding period! Watch to see how much he eats. Im glad my methods worked for ya. As I have raised countless babies in the past...little buggers...lol

Okay so If I'm cutting to ONE feeding what Time should I feed him? once in the middle of the day? like 3pm?

Also if he's eating real good by himself, really no need for the formula. Just check his weight to make sure he is eating well and not losing weight...
