Need help

Ive heard that parakeets tail bobbing is bad
My parakeets tail is twithcing a bit and the blue one is twitching more.. It looks more like a bobbing now
Im in florida and the temperature here is very wacky
Like 40° then the next day 70° and im not home until the afternoon
Can this be because of the temperature in my room?
Ive heard that tail bobbing can be a sign of an illness like their mouths beimg in pain when they eat but they both eat tons of seeds and millet and i cant get them to eat something else
but im very afraid there is something wrong with them
Need help..

Hi, I'm sorry you are so worried. I li e in Florida to abd the weather is crazy 85, then 30's then 80' again ....
Tails move and you can freak yourself out thinking it's a tail bob, just saying cuz I do this!
But a real tail bob goes in rythrm with every breath they take. And if they do have a bob, you will have to take them to an avain vet tomorrow. Parakeets can have mites in their airways, or an infection causing this. And we just can't help, they would need medicine.

On veggies, don't give up!! Once they try them and understand its food, they live and crave them. Leafy salad greens are a big hit with mine they come charging up like sharks to eat them! Mine eat all veggies and leafy greens they love everything I offer. Hang romaine from a clip, offer some veggies in a shallow dish or sturdy little okay on the bottom of the cage so they can look and try. For their long term health they must eat some veggies. You can offer a slice of apple, that should tempt them. Offer fresh corn on the cob and slice off some kernals for them. That will get them trying new stuff.

YES-- this can be a sign of illness. Those are crazy temperature fluctuations...That is unsafe. 10 degrees in a short period is too much. They will go into shock unless the temperature is fairly consistent or they are given many days to adjust. Shaking and tail-bobbing are not the same..one looks like quivering, while the more dangerous of the two happens whenever they breathe in. Either way, please watch closely just in case.

Fresh vegetables and fruits are the best choice. I also found at Petco a product called Bird Greens which is comprised of alfalfa, parsley, kale, chia seed and sweet potatoes, by a company called Kaytee. It smells great and my parakeet likes it. I especially like it for the alfalfa. Many years ago I raised goats, and a man told me alfalfa was the most nutritionally complete food I could feed goats, therefore it must be a great food for birds as well.

I have an important question - how much does it cost for a vet to treat 2 parakeets?

And after the vet trip, i have a pet smart less than a mile away i can bike to to get anything that will help the babys stay healthy

It depends on what is wrong and the vet. Some vets are more expensive but the more tests they have to run, the higher the cost.

I'm in Southern Oklahoma and found a vet about 25 miles away that treats birds, so when asked how much for general exam they said $50.00. To me that's high and don't include treatments and meds I'm sure. Don't know where you are but that may be average cost for one bird.
