I have an orange wing amazon named Darwin. He's 31 and awesome.
I know that I have only had Rocky a week, but he's getting more aggressive towards me. When I walk by or stop to talk to him he ruffles his head feathers, his eyes pin, he hisses and sometimes lunges at me. However, most of the time I offer him food by hand he'll take it gently. Sometimes he bites me instead of taking the food. My husband is doing slightly better and my 13 year old has definitely made friends. Rocky lets him scratch his head. He only stepped up to him when Rocky fell upside down on his perch and wanted to be rescued. I stand and talk to him. Any suggestions on how to get past this aggression? He's on a 5' x7' stand full time because I have to refinish the cage I was given. He originally came from a pet store and was with his first owners for 3 years then with a female coworker of mine for 15 years and was very friendly and outgoing. She had to give him up and he was with a male coworker for the last 2 years and now I have him.

It seems to be his perceived pecking order has your son at the top of the tree, then your husband and then you.
I have the same problem with Casper who is best friends with my wife but will still growl whilst stepping up for her when he was enjoying destroying a cushion and she wants him to stop.
I am just there to answer to his needs when Margaret isn't around in his opinion.
When she is around he will go for me. If she is out he will step up for me if it suits him. If he shows aggression I just go away and do something else. He usually relents eventually. I don't get to cuddle or tickle him.
He is improving with time though, I don't think he feels as threatened by me as he did when we got him in the spring. I think we just have to keep on being kind and await their acceptance. Just never show fear of being pecked, and try not to get in a situation where he is likely to peck you. If you need to pick him up in an emergency just go for it and ignore his tantrums. He will respect you for it.

Whoops! Rocky is a greenwing macaw. I also have an orange wing amazon and used to have an African grey that recently passed away.

I seem to be making some progress with Rocky. Yesterday I discovered that if I sang to Rocky he would lower his feathers, stop hissing and eye pinning. He would begin to dance. Today when I got home from work I walked over to him while I was singing and he never showed any signs of aggression. Hopefully I won't always ha e to sing to interact with him, but for now that's what I'm doing. I need to learn some more songs.

Wow that's excellent news, he's obviously just a big baby. Try a nursery rhyme, he may pick it up and sing it back to you eventually.
Casper does Georgy Porgy pudding and pie kissed the girls and made them cry.
Except that he has shortened it to Georgy porgy pie, then he gives you just enough time to recite the next line before skwarking and saying "WHEN the boys" and leaving us to finish it off.
