So I rescued a baby alex atleast 1 month old, full feathers sharp claws from a shady breeder or catcher whatever he was(cost me a bit) anyway he was handfeeding soaked pulses to the the baby alex so we continued the same(baby was eating right of our finger and seemed happy and enthusiastic) but within 2 days the baby stopped eating started puking everything even water, also got very lethargic.
We took him to a good vet(not an avian vet as we don't have that anywhere in the area) and the vet gave 2 shots to the baby and said the chance of survival are very low and that the bird is probably suffering from Newcastle disease(Lower abdomen was swollen).I made sure the following day that the baby was well hydrated ,gave him fluids forcefully with supplements(vet suggested) and later that night gave pomegranate pulp without seeds. The next morning the baby started hand feeding on pomegranate(happy moment for me),looked a little better although still very lethargic, later that night he handfed on cucumbers, pomegranate and grape bits.Today morning the baby only wanted pomegranate, shut his beak for any other thing,so fed it with that only.also no more vomits and stool looks better too
We will visit the vet again tomorrow(3 days since last visit) for shots, hopefully its an infection and the baby pull's through.

Questions
what could be the problem ,I don't think it's Newcastle's,could be infection.
is it ok to only feed only pomegranate as its the only thing he/she eats willingly.
is baby eating again/not puking a good sign and indicates recovery.
should we still give fluids forcefully now that the baby is eating.
should we keep him warm in towel or something ,its already very hot here, outside temp close to 90F in daytime(the baby sits a little puffed up)
Anything else we could do to help the baby out.

PS: I have had Plum headed parakeet and a Rose ring parakeet who lasted their full lifetime and my entire childhood as my babies,I really love parakeets and dont want anything to happen to this baby, help me out guys!!

It is very difficult to provide suggestion regarding Baby Parrots because of the Cultural Differences. In North America and Europe, it is very common to supply Baby Parrots with a formula, and around 10+ weeks begin changing to solid foods as part of weaning the Parrot. During this period, formula is continued to be supplied at least twice a day until it rejects the formula for at least two weeks.

Please understand that it is very difficult to determine whether your Baby Parrot has an Infection, a physical problem, etc.. Newcastle's is rare in North America and we have less experience with it. But, more likely an infection or the effects of starvation.

At this point, it would seem that whatever the Baby will eat, feed it. The concern is the Baby not starving.

Anytime the Baby is eating and not puking is a good sign.

When faced with an ill Parrot, keeping it hydrated is first priority with feeding following close behind.

Your day time temperature (90 F) is very good for a Baby Parrot. Remember to keep this temperature at night also.

I hope that this has helped.

FYI: Parrot Forum has members Worldwide and when a member needs help - by having a 'general idea' of where that member is, allows other members to address questions based on location (World Time Zones) instead of waiting for others to address the concern /issue. Very Sorry that it has taken so long to have someone response to your Thread!
