Calie - (M. Sun Conure, hatched 3/12)
I have wanted a TAG for as long as I can remember. I bought a sun conure because I have never had a bird larger than a cockatiel. I love Sunny but I still want a TAG and I have decided to find one. I am interested in a newly weaned baby or an adult. I don't believe there are any rescues near Arkansas, USA. Can anyone recommend a good breeder for me? Thank you in advance. I hope to become the proud mom of 2 fids!

I am dealing with Shirley right now with big nest aviary out of Texas. She has quite a few TAG's available right now. She is quick to answer any questions I have asked her. Check out their website www.bignest.com I couldn't be happier!! Good luck in your quest!

Wow, that is a really big breeding facility. I was looking through the pictures of her breeders set up in the out buildings and while they all look clean and healthy, all that is in their cages are a couple perches and food/water. I'm not trying to be mean here but it just seems cruel to keep creatures that are so intelligent in cages without any stimulation. Unless I'm just missing it in the pictures, none of those birds have any toys or anything, what do they do all day, what about when they aren't breeding?

Well, I know nothing about breeding them, so I can't speak to that. I do know she gave me a laundry list of references and of the 8 people I emailed they all had nothing but good things to say about her and the birds they bought from her. Trust me, I researched over a dozen different breeders before deciding up this one, but I understand where you are coming from.

I used Radars Roost ....Kathy was wonderful to work with , she sent tons of pics along the way and kept me updated on him all the time. She really takes great care with her birds.

Kathy was on my list as well parrotmama, but she didn't have any available that would be ready around the time I wanted. She was very friendly. Something just stood out abouth Shirley, but icywolf has me a little paranoid now. I was already nervous about buying from a breeder where I can't visit, but since there are no local breeders it is my only option. I just hope I made the right decision.

I'm not trying to make you paranoid, I've never met or talked to those people and it sounds like everyone that has gotten birds from them are happy. I just hate seeing empty breeder cages like that. I know it's kind of "industry standard" but I don't understand why breeders have to be treated differently than pets. Obviously they need more quiet and they don't get held but I think they should still be given toys and enrichment activities, but who knows, maybe they are content to just be with their mate. I know I give all of my breeders toys and they all play with them. Every night when I feed my budgies there is one pair that puts their little koosh ball foot toy in their food dish. Every night without fail it's sitting in there, it's like their way of telling me, okay, we're done with this, you can refill it now.

And I was watching another pair yesterday, I introduced my one male to a new female, right away he ran up to her, grabbed a single straw(I'm sure the most attractive one he could find), pulled that one straw away from the toy, as far as he could stretch it, and offered it to the female who then took it and started playing with it. It was so sweet, reminded me of a boy giving a girl a pretty flower that he picked to impress her :D

I know that wasn't your intentions. I appreciate you sharing your opinion. Like I said I don't know nothing about breeding them so I am glad you spoke up. I learned something new today. I based my decision on other peoples thoughts and talking with her personally. I just want to make sure I get a baby that was raised properly and is social.

Please remember that birds from different continents to not make friends easily. I got a GCC 2 years after my TAG Rosie and all H... broke out and they just cound not be in the same home together.
