Whenever I sample the fruit or nuts in Higgins or Goldenfeast seed mixes, the is a lingering bitter chemical taste in my mouth. It makes my tongue numb for quite a while.

The packages say they are preservative-free.
Any ideas why everything in the bag tastes so bitter?

Dried fruits taste a lot stronger than fresh fruits which may explain the strong bitter taste. Dried fruits packaged for humans almost always have added sweetners that hide bitterness but parrot fruits should be plain.
Or you may have an allergy to whatever tidbit you sampled. Does you mouth feel funny, tingly, and itch at all?
I hope they aren't lying about ingredients. How would anyone know?

I tried some pine nuts after my parrots stopped training with them to see what was wrong… nuts that have gone bad taste bitter, and smell rancid. It was a nasty taste, and I finally understood why my parrots were protesting their training treats. They were intelligent enough to deny them.
