I kind of off handedly mentioned it to her today. I brought up that I wouldn't mind getting a Macaw, (which I knew she wouldn't even consider) She said, "No way, she doesn't want a macaw or Cockatoo's or any large bird because of their beaks being dangerous. They could cut off your fingers". She said at least with our Senegal, if she pites or pinches it hurts but no real damage. But a big bird can do some damage.
So I brought up forums and how folks have these birds all the time without losing a limb and that most thought it was a good idea to get another bird. So I'm letting her stew on that for a bit before bringing up the Grey.
I talked to Amanda a breeder over in Clermont at www.tropicalparrotise.com , which is like 30 miles from me, who currently is hand feeding a baby Congo and should be weaned shortly. She has even given me the green light to come over when ever I want to visit with the Grey as soon as I put a deposit down on it. Now, to just get my wife on board with it.
Weeeeelllllll, here is the latest on the second bird home front. I have brought it up to my wife about getting a second bird preferrably an African Grey Congo/Timneh or Macaw. We had a little set too about it. I told her and showed her the forums and how most thought it was a great idea.
But my wife quickly pointed out that she knows how my hobbies go, I start off fine, but then before you know it, I'm head deep into it. She told me she didn't want a house full of birds hahahahahaha. She also pointed out that I wasn't totally up front with the forum members here because I neglected to also mention that I have a bad heart, suffer with angina quite a bit, have already had one heart attack and have issues with my heart that are in-operable. She doesn't want something to happen to me and then she is stuck with a bunch of birds to either care for or find good home for.
She loves our little Senegal and feels comfortable with her, but a larger bird she is afraid of. So if anything happened to me, she looks at Tiki as being part of our family and will care for her, but another bird, especially a large bird would be questionable at best.
I hope all goes well for you and your flock, how every many there will be. Just be careful of the powder down. If you do not already have one I sugggest a Rabbit Air cleaner which may be expensive but is the best out there. I have the medium priced one ($500) and it has done the job well. It is quiet and efficient. No, I am not with the company.
