My beloved green cheek conure 'Charlie' passed away yesterday. My house feels empty and so does my heart. She was just 11 months old and died of unknown causes. I took her to the vet when i noticed something wasn't right (she was sluggish and vomiting all of a sudden). The tests were run and her Xrays looked fine but the WBC was sky high. I was told by multiple doctors that it was most likely some kind of bacterial or fungal infection. I was also told that she didn't have much time left and running more tests to validate the diagnosis wasn't going to be worth it so I got her started on Enrofloxacin, Doxycycline, Itraconazole, Liver tonic (milk thistle, dandelion, lactulose). She got the medicines for about 4 days but they didn't seem to be helping her. Her regular weight was 64g but she went down to 45g within 3, 4 days. Her droppings were also getting really dark. On March 3, 4:22 AM she finally let go right in my hands. I could have taken her in for an autopsy to find out what killed my baby but i couldn't bring myself to do it :( I am so devastated and ANGRY!!! WHAT ON EARTH TOOK MY BABY???!!!!!

My deepest condolences for your loss of Charlie. May her priceless memories grant you comfort.

Parrots have the gift of maintaining the appearance of normalcy when sick. The lab tests certainly suggest bacterial or fungal infection, and they responded with a cocktail of powerful drugs. The only reliable method to determine likely cause is necropsy (autopsy) and that was understandably difficult. I am so sorry, it is especially sorrowful when they pass at a young age.

I am so sorry to hear of this, the passing of your loved conure, Charlie. I think most of us have experienced the loss of a feathered baby and know how you are feeling. So his passing is remembered, I made a donation to Cornell Univ. Vet program in Charlie's name, directing it to be used expressly for parrot related programs and studies. I hope this helps.

So very sorry for your loss. We have only had our Rin since August 2019 and he is almost 1 years old. I can't even think how this would effect us since its my 13 yr old daughters bird. I hope you find solace in knowing she is not hurting anymore and is flying with her flock.

Condolences, Maha. If you really decide you need it, closure is available in the form of an autopsy, as you said.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Charlie. All of us here understand the bond we have with our birds, how very special and magical it is, and how very quickly it forms. Charlie was obviously a much loved and special member of your family and I am sure she knew how much she was loved.

Godspeed to the Rainbow Bridge sweet little Charlie, you will be forever missed by your loving family :smile016:

So sorry to hear if this!! Heartbreaking! You did everything! Something there is no way to know...
