I may not have any birds yet, but I do have one pet. My kitty Kazmir. He's a DSH Classic Tabby neutered Tom, and he is just over 2 years old now. I got him when he was 9 weeks old, and he was just a sweetheart from day one. Proud to say he sees the vet for a check up every 6 months, has a wellness plan, is microchipped and has his rabies tag. Which he never wears, doesn't like collars. However, I can say Kazmir is MY first pet, we had the family dog, who passed away at 13 last year, but he was more moms dog, and she did the feeding and the paying for him. Kazmir is my first pet that I have 100% responsibility of, and proud of it.
I am currently switching him to a grain-free kitty kibble Natures Recipe, Salmon and Potato instead of the Purina Cat Naturals, so far he's liking it. He gets about a tablespoon of wet food every night and gets all of his daily food portion in his bowl every morning. Fortunately he is not a scarfer, he spends all day eating his dry food portion, so its safe to let him have access to it all day rather than splitting it up in meals.
He's spoiled, he gets this cat tree all for himself.
Once in a blue moon I will allow him to shred a nearly used up paper towel roll, he loves to shred those.
He's even harness trained. I began harness training him when he was 12 weeks old. It did not take long. He is a energetic but laid back cat. I can brush him, clip his nails, pick him up, snuggle, get him into his carrier for the vet. Everything I could have asked for in a cat. He LOVES going outside and whenever he hears the harness jingle he comes running!
Naturally like any cat he's very independent and inclined to do his own thing, however when he was still quite young I trained him to certain calls and commands. I do this "brrrrg" which is the same effect as his name. its essentially my "come here baby" for him and him alone, he also responds to his name, and "get down" for when he's on counters and tables where he shouldn't be. I also taught him that "psssst" means that he's doing bad and when he's really being a butt I'll hiss like a big momma cat to get his attention. XD
He's a handful at times, but he my little love bug.
His first snow adventure. This was last winter where we got almost 6 inches of snow, on the valley floor! He wasn't out long, I didn't want frozen pads.
