Hi Guys!
3 days ago bought a green INR from a breeder and I guess he's a male around 6-8 months old atm. I ve named him SUNNY. Well, I have a couple of concerns here.

1. I dont find him making much noise. I heard INR's make a lot of noises. Sunny does make noise but only once or twice in a day. (Well in a way its good as my neighbours wont complain :p)

2. Until I brought him, his droppings were green. I started feeding him colored pellets mixed with seeds from past two days and gave him a piece of strawberry yesterday night and today morning I noticed his droppings changing to dark brown color a bit watery as well. (I'm really scared :11:)

Prior to this INR I had a pacific parrotlet, I found his droppings remained quite constant in color (but he hardly used to eat the pellets).

Sunny doesn't sit in a corner nor his eyes or nostrils are runny and neither he is fluffed up. Infact, he will perch on my finger when I want to get him out of his cage and after much buttering he will wave a Hi to me :D

So I seriously hope there's nothing wrong out here!!

Thanks,
Mak.

I don't know much about IRN, but I can tell you that my lil Rio's poop is always changing color and consistancy. If she eats and apple its kind of runny for that day, strawberries or raspberries, it turns purple-ish, sweet potato/yam ball thingys I make her it turns orange-ish. I think the poop thing will change up depending on what and how much they eat. Good luck!

I have a 3 year old IRN, and it all sounds normal to me.
My 4 boys (the parrots) have droppings that match what they eat.
When it's broccolli...everybody is green and runnier, colored pellets...rainbow poo
When they eat more fruit, it's much runnier.
Don't panic!!! It sounds normal to me.
I would still suggest a vet visit just because he's new. You can never be too careful.
My irn isn't noisy, either. He doesn't talk at all though, and he'll occasionally make some little screeches. I'm surprised mine doesn't talk. Two of my birds talk really well, and I was hoping it would teach him to talk some.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thank you guys, I will monitor him once I am back home from work. Will change his diet in the evening and give him some green veges and seeds (no pellets). Will keep you guys posted.

Puck's poops change color and consistency with the food he eats. That's probably why.

I've read that eating mostly seeds will result in very green feces, whereas pellets and other foods tend to result in browner droppings. I've found this to be the case with my Moustached Parakeet. I feed him undyed pellets, so I don't get the rainbow poos.
Likewise, the higher water content of fresh foods will result in more liquid in the droppings. If you look closely, the fecal part (brown/green) is probably still pretty well-formed, and there's just more urine with it.

I was also under the impression that IRN don't make much noise, compared to some other parrots. My parakeet doesn't talk much either (a fairly closely related species).
Plus, you just got him. He's still getting used to you and his new surroundings, so he's probably a little nervous yet. I find that a chatty bird is a happy bird, so while it's probably not something to be concerned about right now, his quietness probably just means he's not entirely comfortable there yet.

I dont think you shold change what he is used to eat to much. The right way is to let a bird vet look and check him. Not loud... Just wait until he is use to the new place lol

Guys,
Many many thanks for all the responses. I checked the droppings back yesterday everything seemed to be normal. I agree that those colors were basically result of Sunny eating the colored pellets. Will post some of sunny's pics soon.

Regards,
Mak.

congrats on your new IRN! i am getting one this weekend too, i can't wait!! i haven't even seen it yet but she says its turquoise. its probably just a blue one, but i really wanted a blue one, so i am very happy.
don't know the sex of mine either, but its about the same age as yours.
i will never get over losing my Bette(IRN) and will never forget her. but i feel she is gone to birdie heaven by now or hopefully someone took her in and she is making someone else happy.
the house was too empty without her so the newbie arrives on sunday.
i would like to see pics of your baby. we can compare notes and pics so to speak to see how they develop. i am hoping mine will be a boy.
now i need a name..............

Hey guys! My IRN is about 1 year old and he is a very talkative boy. His names Harvey and his diet is a parrot mix. Seeds, nuts and other wierd stuff. His poops are brown and green and dry and runny. I still havnt taken him to the vet as it's far away but we will be making our first visit very soon.

Also, I can promise you that your parrot will start talking and making very wierd noises soon. Ounces it's adjusted to its new home, bam.
