Hi Iā€™m soon to be a budgie parent, I just need a few tips on how to care for them I can tell you what I have for them so far and you can tell me whatā€™s bad and what I should get
1. Sand paper sheets
2. Millet treats
3.seeds
4.swings/perches/plastic bottle/bowls
5. A tall and abit wide cage
Please tell me what I need and whatā€™s best to look after them as I want them to have the best life possible anyone help I donā€™t mind Iā€™ll read them allā¤ļøšŸ’˜šŸ¤—

Avoid sandpaper sheaths. They are very abrasive and can easily damage birdsā€™ feet. If you want a grooming perch, I would recommend one that is rough on the sides (where the birdā€™s nails are touching) but smooth on top.

I recommend using stainless steel bowls, but plastic will suffice if you donā€™t have access to anything else. It does need to be cleaned more often, but itā€™s okay to use.

Make sure you have a variety of perches to prevent issues like arthritis. Natural wood perches are ideal.

Budgies love shredding toys, so itā€™s important to have several of them. The ideal toy is one that the bird is happy to destroy. I recommend seagrass mats, bird kabobs (yucca wood), and whatever else you can find!

What are the dimensions of the cage? + How many budgies are you getting?

I agree.. sandpaper sheaths should be avoided. They can cause a foot infection called Bumblefoot, among other problems.

Corkscr.ew has good advice! You want variety in their food, toys, and perches. If you have a dowel perch, make sure to add more perches of different diameters to prevent foot cramps and things like arthritis.

Good luck to you! And congrats on the budgies!

Hello! If you are buying your budgies from the pet store they are probably on an all seed diet. That's how mine were. Over time, try to transition to pellets and some fresh fruits and veggies. At the store there are many kinds of pellets, some of which are healthy. Avoid colored ones because those are usually flavored and have extra sugar. Have fun with your new friends!

I've heard of those perches that are rough on the sides but I don't know what they're called. Can you tell me?
