Indian Ringneck Parrot - Rio
Hello parrot lovers, I'm a newbie here so I bought this parrot in he store, they told me it's a bird from 2015 and it's a male. So i was wondering if it's so, also It's 5th day he is with me and he's a bit scared and eats only fruits is it ok during the adaptation period, is it possible to tame a bird from pet shop?
Here are some pics:

Welcome. He looks like an Indian ring neck parrot. Almost any parrot can be tamed, with time and love. Ring necks if they aren't handled a lot will revert back to being wild, as all parrots are, quicker then most. But if you slowly bring him round, they can be just as loving and tame as any other bird. They are also known as good talkers. Now that you know what he is, read, read read about them on line, and ask of questions here.

Agreeing with Mr. Good Wrench, :) as to type and what to do next!
Any specific problems... this is a very educational and friendly place.

Thanks guys for your reply, but is it a male or female, and how old my parrot is? Well i'm not asking precise age, just to know approximately.

It can be hard to tell if indian ringnecks are male or female when they're young. The males ring usually comes in at 2 - 3 years old (can be as young as 18 months) however females will look the same as young IRN (never get a ring). If you want to be 100% sure (and can't wait) DNA sexing or surgical sexing (by an avian vet) is the way to go.

YOu may want to think about getting a bigger cage for your buddy, and some toys for him to play with. IRNs are very smart and need lots of stimulation, both with toys and interaction with you, his person! Toys can be anything from bottle caps, to chunks of olld phone books, to store bought parrot toys. Introduce them one by one slowly, let him get a look at them before you stick it into his cage.

This is a temp cage, i have a bigger cage that i have to pick up. It's 5th day of adaptation so he is still kinda shaking when i approach him, he started to eat seeds like yesterday, before that he ate cherries, apples and strawberries, makes lots of sounds for last 3 days. Also i'm waiting for UV lamp for him.

Welcome, beautiful baby! If your little guy is only shaking when you approach him, he is going to come around quickly! That cage will be really nice for when you're sitting outside with your baby. But, please take time to secure all of its attach points! If bumped they are known to fall apart! I use simple tyewraps.
Hey if you haven't put your money down on the UV lamp yet, you may want to reconsider it, there is a lot of controversy on the subject! Instead spend your money on toys, toys, and or toys!

I didn't pay for it yet, what is the controversy on the UV lamp subject? I read that it's good for vitamin D and that it make the parrot feel better in some way.

I am a fairly new parront also. I recently took my 4 moth old to a avian vet for a well check up. I asked her about the light and she suggested that 10 min of real sunlight is best. Since my lady's wings are clipped I take her outside for a while daily. you could take your baby outside in your temp cage. Just dont do it when its hot. Early morning or evening is best on hot days.
good luck...your bird is beautiful.

Thanks for the advice. And thanks for the compliment to my bird. Cheers!
