My GCC died at only 10 months old :(

I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you were doing every thing right. Hopefully you will get an answer from the vet, but you will drive yourself crazy trying to second guess everything you did . you gave him a good life and sometimes things happen that are not in our control and if it was a virus I don't see how you could have prevented it.

This post made me sad, reading the details of his final hours and days. I am sure he passed knowing he was well loved and cared for.

I couldn't bear going through this with my conure. I hope they are able to tell you something.

We are so sorry for your loss... Very sad.

I am happy to hear that you are going to get the other GCC.

Hang in there...

I'm so sorry for your loss.
It's very sad when birds die, but when so young birds die I think it's more sad.
Many comforting hugs from me.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost Puck in July, and missed a week of work because of it. I cried for days. I still miss him.

I was given a new bird a few weeks ago, and I'm definitely glad to have a new buddy. At first I felt weird about putting another bird in Puck's cage, and giving him Puck's things, but I'm sure Puck would have been happy to share. This new bird is growing on me quite a bit, and it's nice to have birdy company again. Totally different personalities, but both great birds.

Kani I'm so sorry for your loss. It's the worst feeling in the world. Did you ever find out what yours died from? I feel like I just need to know the reason before I bring another Conure into our home.

I am so sorry to hear this happened.. I welled up a little.
I know he was 10 months old but even in that period I know how attached you can become and it doesn't make it any easier.
You loved and cared for him, and I'm sure he knew that. In his final hours you were with him too, which would have made him more comfortable. Upsetting yet heartwarming to hear he rested his head on you...

My thoughts are with you. *Hugs*

Hi everyone. I got the results back today from Yoshi's death. My local vet has never heard of this condition but he sent the results to an expert in Toronto and he said it's something called Conure Bleeding Syndrome and he hasn't seen a case of it in 8-10 years. There was absolutely nothing that could have been done to save our sweet baby Yoshi :( This disease is caused from either a lack of Vitamin K & D, or can just be brought on from birth (which was the case for Yoshi). The Doctor explained to me that you may find on the internet that you can sure this disease my Vitamin K shots but these shots cause ulcers and retardation and the bird would most likely suffer even more. These results kind of make me feel better knowing that there was nothing I could do to save him, but I miss the little guy so much.

Thank you for sharing the results. I think it is helpful to know for the future and for closure. I've read about this disease in my internet wanderings, though that thread did not report of a specific cause either.

I hope things get easier for you and your partner soon.

Like I said, can't you get your money back from PetSmart being this was something brought on from birth?

I know the money won't bring your little guy back, but you can use it for your other bird!! I would be calling petsmart today asking whats up!!

I did contact Petsmart and they asked me to have the Doctor fax the results to them so I'm not sure what will happen yet. I would hope that a large company like that would take care of the situation.

Good luck!! The two PetSmarts I go to are really helpful and I do feel like they want to do what's best for the animals (at least where I am at). If you have something from your vet that says it's from birth, I can't see them arguing with you too much. Good luck and let us know what happens.

awww, my heart goes out to you. It's true what they say, people do not understand the depth of affection and love we carry for our feathered friends. We are all curious to know what the results will show. Possibly he was born with it, or could he have got this from somewhere else? hopefully you will get the results soon, and you can put this behind you.
Maybe you could ask to get your deposit refunded considering the circumstances.

I posted the response a couple of posts ago. And thank you for the condolences.

I'm so sorry for the late response. I'm sitting here now crying after reading about your precious baby. :( So very very sorry for your loss. :(

Thanks everyone. It's been so hard :( He was our best friend.

I am so sorry for your loss, I teared up as well... I hate to think about these things because they can really tear your heart out...

You did the right thing having a necropsy performed. You did it for the sake of your other babies but it also brought you some closure... I'm sure for a birdy 10 months may seem like a very long time and a least Yoshi got to spend it with someone who loved him veeeery much. I hope you give this other birdy a home because it sounds like there's a good one waiting. <3
