My Conure from hell

Hi!

I`m having some serious problems with my 2 year old female GCC
First thing, she bites. And yeah, i know they are nippy birds, but she`s on the attack all the time when she`s out of the cage. It`s getting to the point that she will fly straight at me, trying to bite my hands, my neck, anything she can get to and draw blood. Almost took my eye out the other day >.<

I tried training her, but even with treats present shes not interested at all. She will just stomp around, shriek bloody murder, and try and bite me.

It`s been getting to the point where im not sure what to do anymore. I have been looking up training videos, articles, asked people for help who have these sorts of birds, but nothings working.

So i hope some of you might have some tips or tricks for me

Has she always been the same, or is this a change in her behaviour?

My vet said they will get hormonal around the age of 2. He said the bird will get aggressive and to just leave him in his cage and try not to provoke the behavior. Still be around for company. He said it generally will last about a couple of weeks and then they get over it and start feeling a bit lonely and will want your company again. I ask him if this is something I should expect monthly, he said no Just this one time through the change. SHeldon will become 2 is July....cant wait

Strudel: She was alot nicer when i got her around 6month ago, more quiet at least
She was pretty scared to begin with but came around, and just suddenly turned evil on me these last few months. Always been a biter though.

I rarely say this, but maybe it would be best if you clipped her wings so she's more dependent on you to get around. At least until you get this under wraps, and they do grow back out. My conure tried to bite me when I first got him and will still go after my fingers a little if I don't tuck them under and offer my arm instead. And don't let her be the boss, if she acts up put her up for awhile. If you show fear it makes it worse. And I had to use gloves for awhile so mine knew biting me caused no pain. I know people say not to do that but when it's either your finger bleeding or a gloved hand I say go for it. It helped me with mine when he was tearing into me in the beginning. Usually now he'll step up on my arm and run up my arm onto my shoulder without incident. If he tried to bite I would shake my arm slightly to unseat his sure footing and throw him off the biting. That worked as well. It helped redirect his attention on getting his footing again. We're good now, but it's because I was gentle but firm and didn't let him get the upper hand. Offer cut up grapes or raspberries, they tend to go over well as a treat.

I agree with Mimimaker. My tiel came to me with wings clipped now with a little training and discipline she flies only when she knows its acceptable. My tiel has never bit me so I hope her or his hormonal stage will be short and mild.

Yes, sounds like it could be she's hit puberty (or whatever the bird equivalent is called). I've no idea about how to ride it out, but you should get your "baby" back in time.

Although it's a controversial topic, if you are not prepared to wait the cycle out, trimming their wings will give you time to begin a good training routine, before her wings molt back in.....
