Moving cross country with 9 birds!?!

If you buy a deep water bowl and fill it 1/2 .. It shouldn't spill.... Unless you are driving a buckboard cross country....My amazons partied in there water bowls the whole ride down...

No buckboard, just a Mini Cooper, a moving truck, and a Subaru Forester. ;)
I'm not too worried about spills anyway, they'll have smaller cups and be in smaller cages anyway.

Your golden;)... All nice riding cars... Albeit not the biggest but nice;););)

Good luck!! I recently moved from Montana to TX with a macaw, a yellow napped amazon, and two budgie parakeets... Monte was the hardest to accommodate.. Those long tail feathers.. We stopped alot just for the birds... And we carried them in our Monte Carlo.. Slow and easy... :)

And indeed.. Do keep lots of water with you.. We didn't and poor monte got sick on the way down...the vet couldn't find out why.. We think it was from icky water.. He was fine.. But spare your birds from that if you can..

Good luck! With the proper planning, I'm sure everything will go smoothly.

Let everybody here know how it all turns out too!
I've always wondered what exactly happens at a check point beween state lines, especially with birds.

Will do! I'm sure it's going to be quite an adventure

I have traveled cross country from California to Georgia multiple times. There are two states that have inspections. California looks for produce coming into the state and Texas looks for illegal aliens. Texas will use dogs to check your vehicle. The other states are a piece of cake.

Super! I was actually going to research that. Thank you for the info!

Never traveled with 9 birds, but Pritti has been cross country twice in a car. He was in a cage and did fine. At night we stayed in pet-friendly hotels and he enjoyed his out time. At rest stops and getting gas, we gave him out time too, but he wasn't too happy about having to go back in cage when we started driving again. A little water in the dish was fine for him and some dry food.

If you are moving to S.E. Florida, I can give you the name of a two A-vets if you need/want them.

Wanna

I'm actually moving to north/west FL near Panama City.

Also.. Make sure you get health certificates for all animals..Florida wants a cert for all animals coming into the state.. I never had to show it or was even asked for it.. But I never stopped at any of the weigh station or inspection stations were they are looking for that..

If I remember correctly, you are only inspected in Texas if you are traveling the most southern route, I-10/I-20. I am thinking around El Paso because the US/Mexican border is so close. I was not carrying any livestock except a German Shepherd and Border Control didn't even inquire about her. Birds may be a different story so inquire about it if you are traveling in that area. If you are traveling the more northern routes, I don't think you have to worry about anything. To be on the safe side, I would have a vet check your birds and provide some sort of documentation that they are yours legally and are healthy if you are pulled over by law enforcement. After all, how many people travel with that many birds so I am sure questions will be asked. Do look into the regs for Florida as another poster suggested. You do not need any surprises. Do look for hotels that allow pets in advance because many now have security cameras. You will have your hands full. Have a safe trip.
