Goodness time flies! I havenāt been on forum in over 3 years if not longer! I was browsing around today when I remembered this place and thought I would pop in to see how things were going.
This forum was a fantastic resource when my family first got Monty 4 years ago and he has been nothing but an amazing bird. So I figured if any thing an update of sorts would be in order. In these past few years heās proven a lot of the typical amazon stereo types and then some wrong and heās an absolute sweetheart.
So Monty! Monty is a 4 and a half year old, male double yellow headed amazon. My family got him back around Christmas of 2015 and havenāt looked back since. Heās probably got a vocabulary of around 200 words and phrases. Heās a lover and not a single person bird, while he has preferences he will stay with and step up and hang out with anyone.
Heās a sweetheart and loveeeessss attention and to play, heās super hand tame and interactive, heāll lay on his back in my hands and let me do just about anything to him (he complains about some of it but he still lets us do it, like wing checks)
He spends his summers up at our cottage going for backpack walks around the beach and hanging in the sunny yards. He also spends time at our local stampede during the summer at a booth to talk to people when they come by and be a ham. He had a thing about wolf whistling at local rcmp.
Heās overall turned into an amazing bird and a lot of his early training came with help from this forum, the information we learnt on pressure training was invaluable in making him as handelable as he is.
