Anyone else with a grey feel similar?

Because kenji's feathers are scalloped(meaning very well defined) as well as short and stiff. If one breast feather is missing it's obvious. Because he's molting right now his chest looks haggard even though he's probably only missing 8-10 feathers in various areas.
Because Rosie used to pluck I'm VERY worried about Kenji plucking, I'm guessing that the majority of members have seen those sad plucked greys. They are prone to plucking, so I feel my worries are very valid haha. Everyday when I clean out Kenji's cage I closely examine the molted feathers to make sure they don't look plucked, luckily none look plucked so that's great. Two days in a row he lost one tail feather each day, so now his tail looks thinned out. Also, whenever he looses a large flight feather he chews on the shaft of the feather XD freaked me out at first! LOL

I bet after a few molts this won't even phase me haha, but for now I'll continue I be paranoid as he looks haggard during his molt. I attached a photo of him preening, showing some of the missing feathers. Nothing major, mostly you notice it from lack of a pattern. On his opposite side he's missing two feathers next to one another. So you can actually see the down a little.

Hope he finishes this molt quickly , here's Kenji preening his wing. A. Dry silly pos since he's standing on a slope. Clearly shows how the patterning on his chest is messy because of molted feathers.

Hi!

Don't be so paranoid about your bird he looks very well looked after and happy so don't feel bad about him moulting I don't think anyone would really notice unless pointed out to them :) any way just think that the more feathers he loses the more feathers grow back that were even better than the ones before :D

I think he looks beautiful - missing feathers or not. He looks to be one happy and healthy boy. Nothing wrong with being paranoid, just means your an awesome parront.

I love the picture - they always seem to do tasks like preening in the most difficult of positions

Sherlock looks just like that right now, except he has dropped almost all his tail feathers. I see pins coming in but it was quick and I totally freaked. He is a week short of a year old and is beginning his first molt. You aren't alone. I worry about plucking too.

He still looks lovely! glad to see this post tho I felt the same my baby has lost quite a few tail feathers and I was so worried

All birds look a little "rough around the edges" when molting. Kenji looks healthy, and in a few weeks, he will look amazing with all those new feathers! Just keep him busy and well-loved :)

I hear you, sister!! Percy's been molting for about two months now and is thankfully almost done it seems. His tail is still a bit 'less than it should be' but the new tail feathers are growing nicely. Even knowing that I'm still stressing all the time that it could be plucking! LOL!!

Like you, I'm hoping following molts will be easier on us both :)

Stop worrying, he look just fine.
