Molt HELP

I know molts are not over night especially a hard one. I got BB at the end of Oct and vet told me he was headed into a hard molt. Some of his feathers around his neck were missing then. Birdman even commented that he needed a bath LOL Well I can see quite a few pin's coming in around the neck and my house is covered with small fluff LOL. He spends most of his time out of the cage now when I am home. My question is does this look normal ? It actually looks worse in the pic because he was stretching his neck
He has lost a few of his tail feathers and new ones growing in. He just looks really bad around the neck. No bare spots A friend told me the molt might be heavy due to stress . Being re-homed twice in less than 6 months. Also his last diet SUCKED all walmart seed

Hard molts are not serious.

They do get moody during them.

Increased bathing, i.e. taking them into the shower and soaking them seems to help a lot. If your bird will let you open his pin feathers, then you need to do that for him, because he can't reach those spots with his beak. Ordinarily another bird, usually a mate, would do that for him.

I spent about an hour opening Maggie's pinfeathers on Sunday.

Sweepea still won't hold still long enough for me to do more than five or six at a time...

Thanks. This has worried me. He lets me open some of them. I have increased the bath. I remembered you did that for one of your birds. I just feel so bad for him.

Yep.

Hard molts are not fun for anyone. Increased bathing, try and open the ones that are ready to open, warm comfort foods on your lap... and other than that, just let them be.

Cuz they tend to be grumpy and miserable...

Understatement Thanks I was really stressing. I will just keep trying to open what I can for him. Mother nature sure played a good trick on me. Hormones and Molt at the same time just aint fair

Yeah, well, macaws are easier than amazons when both hit at the same time...

So there is that.

Sweepea is going through the same thing right now. Though I'm slowly getting them opened.
