mildew/damp

No emergency or anything just general question for potentially the future. How are parrots around mildew/or damp? I've been told if I have a parrot in the future they can come to the office (pretty relaxed at my work). The AC unit though is a bit terrible and often spits out a damp smell and the office next to the one I'm in floods sometimes so there's damp in there. I was just wondering if a parrot would be okay around this for the occasional 4 hours on a Saturday I do? It would be nice to bring them and would be a good opportunity to socialize with new people.

Not a worry if it's not okay for them, was just a nice thought that I had to spend more time together

TBH better to err of the caution re this, mold on food or in the air is dangerous to parrots. Aspergillus mold can cause the deadly disease, aspergillosis. Sounds like it would be nice to take him/her with you? Perhaps you need to research if there are any risks to you also?

I wouldn't. Parrots just have such delicate respiratory systems.

Unsure if anyone else in our office is bothered by it being damp and smelling of mildew, but they could also get a portable dedicated dehumidifier for the office, which would take care of that issue year round and make everyone more comfortable. We have one that I roll around our condo and it sucks like 2 gallons of water out of the air every day in the moist months to keep mold and mildew problems from forming. Keeping humidity at below 50% inhibits the ability for molds and mildews to grow.

yeah I unfortunately have had to learn the lesson of caution with parrots, hence why I wanted to get others opinions. Who knows maybe next time I'm alone in here I'll take a look at the AC unit itself and give it a good clean. Luckily the office that flooded seems to have been cleaned to some degree so it isn't smelling. Was bad a couple weeks ago. No way would I bring a parrot with how it was then, it made me feel unwell so no way was a parrot gonna be here. I'll have to look into it if/when I get a new friend

A real danger is Legionnaires Disease, pathogens live in cool water and get into the air...improperly functioning a/c caused the outbreak that earned it that name

Yeah it's not the greatest. Saying that ti could be caused by the intakes outside. They're right under some trees so all the spores and rubbish go directly into the intakes. The problems are more likely related to that
