Buffons Maccaw Monroe ~ 6 years ~ unsexed

Orange Winged Amazon ~ hatched june 30 2010 ~ unsexed
Here is my Buffon's macaw Monroe. He is 6 years old, we rescued him about a year and a half ago. He was on a seed diet and not given much socialization or time out of his small cage in his previous home. It has taken a lot of work..but he trusts us now and is adjusting just fine.

He came to us unable to fly....the vet said that he was more than likely clipped before he could learn to fly as a baby. He does not open his wings much, and have never seen him extend them fully. He is a great guy, sweet and gentle for the most part.

Monroe is gorgeous, :rainbow1:I just love macaw's. I think if I were to get another bird (in my next life LoL) a macaw would definitely be first on my list.
I gather you have Monroe on pellets, fresh fruit and veggies now.
Enjoy your precious time with Him, they are absolute treasures. :emoticonc

Yes he is on pellets, fruits and veggies and pasta and chicken and eggs and nuts and anything else he can get his beak on. This guys loves to eat. The first night we brought him home we gave him pellets to see how he took to them...he devoured them!

It is sad that he can not fly...he watches our amazon Kiwi fly and can not take his eyes off of him in flight. Makes me want to cry the look he gets sometimes poor boy. But even without the ability to fly he still gets into his share of trouble...ha ha ha.

Just so glad that he is so resilient and able to learn to trust people again. He will do anything for just one more almond..lol.

Toys in his cage are still a bit of an issue...he is up to allowing four toys in his cage now.....he had none when we got him. He does play with toys when he is out of his cage though.

Thanks for all the comments...he is gorgeous and spoiled rotten!
