Hi everyone,

Maui has been exceptionally sweet to me lately and I'm not sure why the change. He will usually greet me in the mornings with lots of kisses and chirps and will do that for about 5-10 minutes, but then, he'sssss OFF and RUNNIN' and stays busy ALL DAY LONG until it's time for his warm meal at about 5PM, in which I swear he has an internal alarm clock because he comes to me and gets right in my face and chirps and chirps and whistles and says "Hello" "Hello" "Hello" repeatedly until I make him a little bit of oatmeal!!! Maui is totally weaned now, but still enjoys his "warm meal" before bedtime. Once he gets his warm meal, he plays for about an hour and then puts himself to bed, even closes his own door!!!:11: He's so smart, he just makes me smile all the time.

The past 2 nights, instead of wanting to go straight to his cage, he has wanted me to hold him and pet him for over an hour while I watch T.V., Awwww, it reminded me so much of when he was such a sweet little featherless baby. He snuggles RIGHT into me and wants me to literally put my hands over his back side and hug him!!! All the while he's doing these sweet little grunts and groans.

It's been so nice, and I really hope this is something he'll want to do EVERY night before he goes to sleep, because I just LOVE it.

BTW.. We're getting MUCH closer to him saying "Hello" clear enough for you guys to understand, once he gets it down, I'll video him saying it. He's such a smart little guy. He's picking up different sounds every day and I think he's even been trying to say "I love you" But, we'll see if that's what it is he's saying in a few weeks.

Lisa...he's probably going to be that way until he's about a year or two old. Just like human kids, once he gets a bit more independent, he's going to get a little bristly. Sort of an "aww, mom...not in front of my friends!" teenager attitude. Cherish these moments while he's still a total snuggle bunny. It is an amazing time.

Aww, awesome, I'm glad I've got a while before he doesn't care to snuggle too much anymore. See, he's not been the little snuggle bunny that he used to be since he's learned to fly pretty much, so it was a sweet treat for me. :)

And whoever said our birds don't give us treats was so wrong !!!!!!!!
The birdie cuddles and lovies are such special moments, like treasure them.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, Lisa. You'll still have those occasional little moments when he needs to a hug from Mom (who doesn't? LOL), but he'll be all grown up before you know it.

Just wait until he hits his "terrible two's" LOL. There will be some moments when you wonder where your sweet little angel went, and where this devil impostor came from. All parronts who have raised a fid to maturity know what I'm talking about.

LisaMarie, it must be something in the air! Fred is unusually sweet as well, and wanting his "sitdown" with me every evening before bed. He's been really gentle as well. I sometimes feel like I should ask..."Who are you and what have you done with Fred!!!!" LOL!!!:D Enjoy it!!! Who knows how long it will last!

awww i can't wait to see him talk :) and isn't it just awesome when they are cuddlebugs....my non bird friends don't get how you can cuddle and snuggled with a BIRD of all things, lol...

That is good that he is wanting his Mommy..

Abby has kind of been the opposite the last couple days... she will come out of her cage and she looks at me when I talk to her, but when I ask her to step up she locks her feet around the cage and will not let go....LOL

I hope you get to experience her holding on to her cage with one hand, and your finger with the other, and calmly refusing to let go when you want to walk away. It's heartbreaking, but definitely a sign of total bonding. :)

I'm totally enjoying this time with him. My husband and I both are. He is a very VERY special bird and I love him more than words can express. He has his days already, Norf where I'm just so confused, thinking he's upset or angry with me because he's withdrawn or gave me a good nip. But, I just remind myself that he's allowed his "days" too and move on in hopes that his spirits are better the next day. He's SO cute when he's struggling to say "I love you", it just touches my heart, he tries SO hard and is so persistant. Sharon, I'm so glad that you and Fred have been getting along so nicely, it's just a precious precious thing to have such an amazing bond with a parrot.
