Bella (Vosmaeri Eclectus Female) + Dexter (Red Sided Eclectus Male) + Gerry (Vosmaeri Eclectus Male)
Well... this evening had a rather unexpected episode of male bonding.

Dexter (the 3 year old male red sided - the one that was hand raised and didn't even know he was a parrot) decided to repeatedly regurgitate and feed Gerry (1 year old vosmaeri).

Is it likely that Dexter is seeing Gerry as a partner or is he trying to parent Gerry? Or could this just be a friendly thing?

I've not witnessed any regurgitation activities until now so am not quite sure what it means, but I guess it can only be seen as a good thing!?

Any advice or info on males regurgitating for males would be appreciated!

As long as you're sure both are boys (which I think I recall you are, so no eggs or babies are a concern), yeah, I don't see a down-side at this point (unless aggression or such starts up), whether they're partnering or bromancing or whatever. Some parrots "feed" their toys, of course, so maybe Dexter is just enjoying his play-thing!

Gail, they are ekkies. No mistaking the gender :)

Regurgitattion isn’t necessarily restricted to being a sign of mating intentions. It can also be done between friends, a sign of affection. I wouldn’t worry about it and let them relate how they want.

like chris said, regurging is not just for their special partner

also remember in the animal kingdom when it comes down to having some 'fun' gender isn't that big a deal

Oh I wasn't worried in the slightest! I just didn't know if anyone could theorise as to which type of relationship would be most likely between the two based on thier age and subspecies.

I know that vos typically take the longest in the ekkie world to become sexualy mature, and so Gerry is definitely a baby, but as Dexter is a little older and red sided that he might be 'coming of age'.

I'm looking forward to seeing thier relationship unfold! Love is love - Doesn't matter if everyone involved is green :)

I did read somewhere about wild birds feeding injured wild birds. Maybe Dexter can see Gerry's wings are 'poorly' and is trying to help him :)

Thanks for your responses so far :)
