Hi my ring neck which I was told was female has just had her first molt an now is developing a slight orange ring round the back of her neck an also few black marks round the front so now I’m thinking she Mabe a male?

Hello Klf91, welcome to the Forums!

Do you know exactly how old your ringneck is? As you probably know, juvenile ringnecks are almost indistinguishable from adult females, with the possible exception that a juvenile will generally have a shorter tail.

It may help if you can post a photo, here's a link that may assist you if you're not sure how to go about that...

We'd love to see a photo of your baby anyway! :)

IRNs shadow rings can be misleading and may appear very dark so the dark feathers are not too helpful. If you're seeing pink though (or as you say orange, depending on the colour of the IRN) then it's definitely male.

Hi sorry for the late replies, I got her last year and the breeder said she was 1 year old so she should be around 2 years, she’s gone quite speckled now the pictures don’t really do it justice but it’s like a red/brown tint.
