Do you know what species your leaning towards more?

Yes , I really , really , really want the HY , so does my hubby .
They are friendly towards everybody , they don't bond to only one person like other Macaws tend to. So that's what we are leaning towards and will most likely get.

Not to be a party pooper, but you might consider sitting on your inheritance for awhile. There's nothing wrong with limiting your love and attention to the birds you already have.

Remember that fantasies can be enjoyable without actually going about trying to satisfy them. A lot of us have fantasies about having a Hyacinth. Some of us have a fantasies involving Olivia Newton-John,... and a bath tub of chocolate. My love for Mardy (my GW) and my love for my wife keep me from trying to actualize either of my fantasies.

However, I do kinda have a taste for chocolate this evening.... Wonder if Olivia has any plans?

To answer your original question. Given a choice, I would choose a male parrot over a female. The males are better talkers. The females have potential egg laying issues. In my own case, by the time I finally brought the little red headed beauty home from the breeders and took her to the Vet for sexing and a checkup, she already had my heart. Gender would have made no difference.

BTW: I have two sons and two daughters. I would not be able to tell you which gender is best. I suspect the same will be true for your Hy if you decide to get one.

EDIT: I've thought this through a bit more. Although when it comes to keeping their rooms clean or getting good grades, one girl and one boy win out over the other two--no, it is not the same two. HOWEVER, my daughters have birds, but my sons have dogs and cats. Obviously, there is a gender winner here. Females are clearly superior to males (at least when it comes to choosing pets). Don't you all agree?

we are still waiting on our b and g so i cant get qualified information on that end. but as far as our cags, we have had too. the first was a female and she bonded with me, being the male of the house. wouldnt even let my wife go near her and that didnt go so well. sadly we had a house fire and she perished, i cried for months. couldnt even speak her name took years before we could even look at another cag. but now we have dexter, a male and he has bonded with my wife, but he tolerates me- being the alfa male of the house if u will. he respects me but he loves his momma, but im ok with that. he has such a vocab, he is part of the family no doubt about that, but good luck and so lucky we would love to have a hy to our flock:blue:

I'm so sorry for your loss :(. I can understand not being able to even look
at another . I don't know how I would even cope.

But it's great to hear you have healed and welcomed Dexter into your family.
My Yoshi is definitely a momma's boy :). But he will offer a kiss to my
hubby , but then it's "get away , where's mom " lololol.
Rosie is pretty neutral :). Thankfully for my hubby , lol.
